260 - ما يَجِبُ عَلى المُبَلِّغِ‏

260. What Is Incumbent Upon The Propagator of Islam

1 - الفقهُ في الدّينِ‏

1. Knowledge of the Religion:

866.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : إنَّ دينَ اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ لَن يَنصُرَهُ إلّا مَن حاطَهُ مِن جَميعِ جَوانِبِهِ .¹

866.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'No one can support [the cause of] the religion of Allah, the Exalted, except for one who is well-versed in all its aspects.' ²

2 - الاستنادُ إلى كَلامِ أهلِ البَيتِ عليهم السلام‏

2. Referring to the Words of Ahl al-Bayt (AS):

867.عبدُ السلامِ بن صالح الهَرَوي : سَمعتُ أبا الحسنِ الرِّضا عليه السلام يَقولُ : رَحِمَ اللَّهُ عَبداً أحيا أمرَنا . فَقُلتُ لَهُ : فَكَيفَ يُحيي أمرَكُم ؟! قالَ : يَتَعَلَّمُ عُلومَنا وَيُعَلِّمُها النّاسَ ؛ فَإنَّ النّاس لَو عَلِموا مَحاسِنَ كَلامِنا لاتَّبَعونا .³

867. Abd al-Salam b. Salih al-Harawi said, 'I heard Abu al-Hasan al-Rida (AS) saying, 'May Allah have mercy on anyone who revives our cause.' I asked, 'How does he revive your cause?' He replied, 'He learns our sciences and teaches them to the people, for verily if people were to know the goodness in our speech, they would follow us.' ⁴

3 - الإخلاص‏

3. Sincerity:

(وَ مَآ أَسَْلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلى‏ رَبِ‏ّ الْعَلَمِينَ ) .⁵

"I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds." ⁶

868.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : ما مِن عَبدٍ يَخطِبُ خُطبَةً إلّا اللَّهُ عزّوجلّ سائِلُهُ عَنها ما أرادَ بِها .⁷

868.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Every single servant who delivers a sermon, Allah, the Exalted, will ask him about it and what he meant by it.' ⁸

4 - الشُّجاعَة

4. Courage:

(الَّذِينَ يُبَلِّغُونَ رِسَلَتِ اللَّهِ ويَخْشَوْنَهُ وَ لَا يَخْشَوْنَ أَحَدًا إِلَّا اللَّهَ وَ كَفَى‏ بِاللَّهِ حَسِيبًا) .⁹

"...such as deliver the messages of Allah and fear Him, and fear no one except Allah, and Allah suffices as reckoner." ¹⁰

869.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : قُل الحَقَّ ، وَلا تَأخُذكَ في اللَّهِ لَومُةُ لائِمٍ .¹¹

869.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Speak the truth, and let no one's blame for obeying Allah affect you.' ¹²

870.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : لا يَمنَعَنَّ أحَدَكُم رَهبَةُ النّاسِ أن يَقولَ بِحقٍّ إذا رَآهُ أو شَهِدَهُ ؛ فَإنَّهُ لا يُقَرِّبُ مِن أجَلٍ ، وَلا يُباعِدُ مِن رِزقٍ أن يَقولَ بِحقٍّ ، أو يُذَكِّرَ بِعَظيمٍ .¹³

870.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Let not the fear of people prevent any of you from speaking the truth, when he sees or witnesses it, for telling the truth or reminding [others] of a great event [the Hereafter] will neither hasten death nor delay sustenance.' ¹⁴

5 - الصِّدقُ‏

5. Honesty:

871.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام - فيما يُنسَبُ إلَيهِ في مِصباحِ الشَّريعَةِ - : أحسَنُ المَواعِظِ ما لا يُجاوِزُ القَولُ حَدَّ الصِّدقِ، وَالفِعلُ حَدَّ الإخلاصِ‏¹⁵.

871.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, in what is attributed to him in 'Misbah al-Sharia': 'The best advice is that which does not carry the statement beyond the limits of honesty, nor the act the limits of sincerity.' ¹⁶

872.عَمرو بنِ أبي المِقدامِ : قال لي أبو جَعفَرٍ عليه السلام - في أوَّلِ دَخلَةٍ دَخَلتُ عَلَيهِ - : تَعَلَّموا الصِّدقَ قَبلَ الحَديثِ .¹⁷

872. Amr b. Abi Miqdam said, 'Abu Jafar (AS) said, when I first went to visit him, 'Learn honesty before speech.' ¹⁸

6 - الرِّفق‏

6. Kindness:

873.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : يَسِّروا وَلا تُعَسِّروا ، وَسَكِّنوا وَلا تُنَفِّروا .¹⁹

873.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Ease and do not cause hardship [when propagating], and comfort and do not nauseate.' ²⁰

874.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : اُمِرتُ بِمُداراةِ النّاسِ كَما اُمِرتُ بِتَبليغِ الرِّسالَةِ .²¹

874.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'I have been commanded to be tolerant towards people as much as I have been commanded to deliver the Message.' ²²

875.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام - لِعُمر بنِ حَنظَلة - : يا عُمَرُ ، لا تُحَمِّلوا عَلى شيعَتِنا ، وَارفُقوا بِهِم ؛ فَإنَّ النّاسَ لا يَحتَمِلونَ ما تَحمِلونَ .²³

875. Imam al-Sadiq said to Umar b. Han?ala, 'O Umar! Do not overburden our followers (Shia), and be kind to them, for people cannot endure what you can.' ²⁴

7 - النُّصح‏

7. Good Advice:

(أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَلَتِ رَبِّي وَأَنَا لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ أَمِينٌ) .²⁵

"I communicate to you the messages of my Lord and I am a trustworthy well-wisher for you." ²⁶

876.الإمامُ عَليٌّ عليه السلام - في ذِكرِ فَضيلَةِ الرَّسولِ الكَريمِ - : بَعَثَهُ وَالنّاسُ ضُلّالٌ في حَيرَةٍ ، وَحاطِبونَ في فِتنَةٍ ... فَبالَغَ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله في النَّصيحَةِ ، وَمَضى عَلى الطَّريقَةِ ، وَدَعا إلى الحِكمَةِ وَالمَوعِظَةِ الحَسَنَةِ .²⁷

876.Imam Ali (AS) said, mentioning the virtue of the honourable Prophet (SAWA), 'He [Allah] sent him while the people were straying in perplexity, and engaged in corruption... He (SAWA) advised extensively and kept on the [right] path, and called for wisdom and gentle exhortation.' ²⁸

8 - تَطابُقُ القَلبِ وَاللِسان‏

8.Coherence of the Heart and the Tongue:

877.الإمام عليّ عليه السلام - في الحِكَمِ المَنسوبَةِ إلَيهِ - : الكَلَمَةُ إذا خَرَجَت مِنَ القَلبِ وَقَعَت في القَلبِ ، وَإذا خَرَجَت مِنَ اللِسانِ لَم تُجاوِزِ الآذانَ .²⁹

877.Imam Ali (AS) said in the sayings attributed to him, 'When a word comes from the heart, it falls onto the heart; but when it merely comes from the tongue, it will not go farther than the ears.' ³⁰

9 - التبليغُ بِالعَمَل‏

9. Preaching Through Action:

878.الإمام الصادق عليه السلام : كونوا دُعاةً لِلناسِ بِالخَيرِ بِغَيرِ ألسِنَتِكُم ؛ لِيَرَوا مِنكُم الاجتِهادَ وَالصِّدقَ وَالوَرَعَ .³¹

878.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Invite people to what is good with other than your tongues, so that they see tenacity, veracity, and piety in you.' ³²

879.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : رَحِمَ اللَّهُ قَوماً كانوا سِراجاً وَمَناراً ؛ كانوا دُعاةً إلَينا بِأعمالِهِم وَمَجهودِ طاقَتِهِم .³³

879.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'May Allah have mercy on the people who are a lamp and a beacon. They call to our cause with their actions and the best of their efforts.' ³⁴
