College of
Hadith Sciences










College of Hadith Sciences is one of the
non–government–run, non–profit higher education institutes in Iran
which is unique in its kind both in Iran and abroad. The College
pursues the following goals in order to do an academic contribution
to hadith scholarship:



1. To raise up the level of culture and education in the society.

2. To train experts and scholars in the field of hadith sciences as
well as training Islamist teachers.

3. To train Islamics preachers for both home and abroad, and to
provide Iranian consulates and cultural houses with Islamics
experts.

4. To admit intending foreign scholars of hadith sciences, and to
meet the needs of Islamic centres abroad.

5. To provide the seekers of Islamic education with such
opprotunities, especially for those who can not attend the long term
education at hawzahs 'traditional religious academices'.

6. To make a suitable ground for common people to taKe part in the
dissemination of knowledge.



The Main Bodies the College

According to the chart certified by the Supreme Council of
the Culural Revolution, the College of Hadith Sciences has got the
following main bodies:



1. The Founder. It has special rights in the establishment and
making the chart of the College, in appointing members of its board
of trustees, and in supervising the cultural, educational, and
research activities of the

College.

2. The Board of Trustees. It consists of a team of experts from both
hawzah and the university who supervise the implementation of rules
in the College.

3. The Dean of the College. He is to supervise all the affairs of
the College such as the implementation of the rules and regulation
of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and the Ministry
of Higher Education.

4. The College Council. It implements the rules indicated in the Act
of University, Councils, among them the coordination of educational
programmes, the deparments, and the fields.



Educational Programmes

At the present, there are three orientations for the
folloving diciplines:

1. 'Ilm al–adith (Hadith Sciences),

2. Mustaleh al–Hadith (Hadith Terminology),

3. Rijal al–Hadith (Hadith Reporters).

The syllabuses of the disciplines are arranged according to the
disciplines taught in the humanities. Furthermore, the main and
supplementary sources are also indicated. In all these stages, all
the standards and criteria set by the Ministry of Higher Education
are taken into account.

According to the curriculum experts of the Ministry, the syllabuses
of the college are on of the few detailea and comprehensive
programmes of higher education.

Due to following the educational rules set by the Ministry, the
College admits students through the University Enterance Examination
and confers certified BA Honours degree to its graduates, certified
by the Ministry.



The Period of the Courses and the Units of
Credit

Undergraduate education in hadith sciences takes about three
years and a half, with its courses offered in a credit system. The
courses are offered in seven semesters, with each semester taking
seventeen weeks.

Each theoretical unit of credit takes seventeen hours and the
practical one thirty–four hours.

At undergraduate level, 135 units of credit are offered for all the
three orientations. The scheme is as follows:



1. General Courses: the Persian literature, English, sprots, and
Islamic education (10 units of credit)

2. Basic Courses: Islamic ethics, Islamic history, the Prophetic and
Imamite biography, Persian literature, ESP, kalaam and Islamic
doctrines, introductory Quranic hemeneutics, Arabic grammar, reading
and appreciation of hadith, fiqh, and Quranic tafsir texts, Quranic
recitation and tajwid, rhetorical sciences, text translation, press
reading, and conversation (60 units of credit).

3. Specialized courses: Uncommon between the three disciplines,
various hadith sciences (65 units of credit).

At the moment , studies are done with respect to the development of
the disciplines and offering postgraduate courses.



Admission:

Everybody can sit for the University Entorance Examination and apply
to this College. As it is a half–centred higher education
institutes, those who have the right requirements, will be called
upon for taking the interview, viva voce, and a special exmination.
Those who pass these will

be starting their education in this college.



The College Building:

The college building has an area of 20,000 square metres,
located by  the Shrine of 'Abd al–'Azim al–Hasani, one of the most
prominent Shiite hadith reporters. In it, the following facilities
are provided:



A. The Educational Section

1. Sixteen fifty–student classrooms, each with an area of
forty–four square metres.

2. Six seventy–student classrooms, each with an area of seventy–two
square metres.

3. A specialized library of hadith sciences with a capacity of
250,000 volumes in a 770 square metres area.

4. Separate reading halls for boys and girls in an area of 770
square metres.

5. Manuscripts library with a capacity of 100,000 volumes of books.

6. A computer centre and four research and audio visual units, in an
area of 220 square metres.

7. The astronomy centre: With an observatory, gallery of pictures,
and laboratory.



B. The Administrative Section

1. Offices and the office of the Dean, all with forty five
rooms

2. Two 120–person auditoriums.

3. Dormitory for seventy students.

4. Sports centre

5. Restaurant and buffet

6. Parking lot



C. Additional Fascilities

1. The college charges no tuition fees and gives financial
support to the students.

2. The students will be provided with sports fascilities, dormitory,
and health serveices.

3. The College is equipeed with a computer centre, language
laboratory, astronomy complex, and manuscript sourses.
