Iran to Distribute Braille Quran Copies Abroad

Director of the public relations of the Center for Printing and Publication of the Holy Quran announced that the center is ready to distribute copies of the Holy Quran inscribed in Braille for the visually impaired in various countries.

IQNA: Mohammad Babayi told IQNA that the Quran copies have been prepared according to the rules of pronunciation established by the center and published in Esfahan. Through application of new technologies, the Islamic Republic of Iran can publish and send the new Quran copies to other countries, he said. A translation of the Quranic verses by Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi has also been included in some of the copies of the Holy Book in Braille which are available at Roshan-Delan Cultural-Quranic Institute in Esfahan. The project began in 2010 under the supervision of scholars and experts of the center, the result of which was the Quran copy that was selected as the best copy of the Holy Book in Braille at the International Braille Quran Conference in Turkey. The conference was held last year to investigate the methods of inscription of the Holy Quran for the visually impaired. Representatives from various countries such as South Africa, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan and The UK as well as Braille Association of Malaysia, Al-Amaan Organization for Blind Women from Yemen, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Braille Press from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Disabled Foundation and Rudaki Center for the Blind and The Cultural and Quranic Institute for the Blind from Iran attended the conference. It was decided that a Non-Governmental Organization with the name of “The International Organization of Braille Quran Services” to be established in Turkey to work towards a unified Braille Quran code.
