Stylistics of the Makarim al-Akhlaq Supplication

Zahra Qasempeivandi

Sayyed Mohammad Reza Ibn-Rasool

Mohammad Khaqani

Supplication is one of the most important texts in the body of the Shia teachings, because it is considered as a dynamic link between the Creator and the creature. Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya is one of the highest examples of the supplication books. The circumstances after the Ashura uprising led Imam Sajjad (a.s) adopt another method to transfer his teachings. Thus he created his great artistic creation, viz. Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya. Among the issues that this article seeks is the way that the Imam used for the audience to better understand and keep in their minds most of the teachings and more importantly for the survival of these teachings throughout history. Stylistic study of Makarim al-Akhlaq Supplication, as an example of this blessed book, leads us to the hidden and influential layers of this supplication. The other advantages of this supplication are as follows: accuracy in vocal music used in the provisions of this supplication, morphological and syntactic structures appropriate to the purpose and goal such as afal tafdil (Arabic comparative) that represents perfection seeking.  On the axis of substitution the Imam has selected concepts and words in full harmony with the content,  so that the other can not replace the word.  One of the most important stylistic features of this supplication is repetition of words and phrases which produces new meanings. This paper views "Makarim al-Akhlaq Supplication" from a new perspective using a descriptive and analytical method.  It shows that the Imam has utilized all the musical elements such as rhyme and pun to help the survival of teachings.  Moreover, morphological and syntactic deconstructions make readers suddenly face with foregrounding, along with a pleasure of understanding this phenomenon.

Hadith "al-Ashara Mubashshira"

Symbol of the Relation of the Politics to Hadith Forgery

Ali Raad

Sayyed Mahdi Hosseini

Hadith " al-Ashara Mubashshira [the ten Companions promised paradise]" a quasi hadith attributed to the Prophet (s.a) is of the most famous texts in the Sunni’s hadith and kalam. It plays a serious role in legitimization and justification of the acts of the three caliphs and their agents. Hence, it is one of the most important principles in the political thought of caliphs school.  In view of the political and theological functions and role of the tradition, many efforts have been justified by the scholars of the caliphs school to preserve and promote it. Although the past and present Shia scholars have discredited it as a forged hadith due to its altered contents and documents. In recent decades, we are witnessing that some Orientalists have studied this hadith and got the same results as the Shia scholars. The results of an orientalistic research indicate the clever forgery of the hadith for political uses aiming at establishing the theory of Caliphate in the school of caliphs against the theory of the Nas (the Text) in the school of Ahl al-Bayt (a.s).

Priority of Ethics over Religion in "Usul al-Kafi"

Sayyed Hamid Hosseini

Analyzing the traditions of Usul al-Kafi, the author of the present paper tries to identify and explain the views of religious leaders about the relation of ethics to Islamic literature. This study shows that the traditions of this collection consider wisdom as the valid source of morality without question. They also hold that ethics is prior to religion in rank and consider religion as supporter of ethics. Therefore, when outward meaning of religious texts is in conflict with ethics, ethics should be preferred.

Desire Regulation Model Based on the Concept of Islamic Zuhd (Asceticism)

Hamzeh Abdi

Abbas Pasandideh

Sayyed Mohammad Gharavi

In Islamic texts, two concepts of the world and the hereafter are of the key Islamic concepts. Stating the value of each of them and showing their position in the universe, Islam depicts

the road map to human happiness. The practical result of such "value judgment" is the believers desire regulation which is called "zuhd" in Islamic literature. Desire regulation based on the concept of asceticism has other functions. Among them is the true fulfillment of human needs.  Since purpose and direction are two important factors for the true fulfillment of human needs, Islam, dividing the human issues into worldly and other worldly and stating their characteristics, introduces the true sources of  fulfillment of human needs which paves the way for believers to have  the correct choice and pay proper attention to the purpose and direction. This process causes psychological consequences such as "emotional stability", "feeling comfortable", "dealing  with the difficulties", "Preventing misconduct and criminal acts" and "facilitating some positive traits such as patience, thanks, wishes "which have been verified by Islamic literature.

Key Words: Desire Regulation, Asceticism, Needs, Motivations.

The Role of the Quran in the Detection and Correction of Tashif in Islamic Traditions

Sayyed Ali Delbari

Sayyed Mahdi Khodaee

Proper use of traditions is subject to remediation of damages to it.  Tashif (slip of pen, misspelling, misplacement of diacritical marks etc.) is one of these damages. It brings about slight changes in words of narrative and thus causes the deviation from the intended meanings. After a brief introduction to this damage and stating the importance of paying attention to it, the authors of the present paper views the different methods of identifying musahhaf traditions through analytical-descriptive perspective. Then they verify the substantive and procedural impressionability of traditions by the Quran, and present two new Qur'an based methods, in order to identify and correct these traditions.

Recognition of Rijal Personality "Hanash ibn al-Mu`tamar"

Sayyed Mahdi Lotfi

Zahra Mohaqeqian

Despite the presence of Hanash ibn al-Mu`tamar in the chain of documents of several traditions of the Shia tradition, there is little information exists about this narrator in  Shia rijal sources.

There are conflicting opinions about the authenticity or weakness of the narrator in Sunni rijal sources.  Fourteen traditions are found in Shia and Sunni sources which are narrated by Hanash ibn al-Mu`tamar in matters of faith, moral and juridical.  The dominant theme of the traditions is about the excellence and superiority of Imam Ali (a.s) over the other Companions and his high position with the Prophet (s.a). It seems his tradition about Imam Ali (a.s) is the reason for being discredited by some Sunni scholars.  Moreover, his name has been recorded in various forms in Shia and Sunni hadith sources: "Hanash ibn Rabiah", " Hanash ibn Kanani" and "Hanash ibn Mughira". In some Sunni sources, these names have been considered to be the names of different people.  The authors of the present article first investigate the identity of the narrator trying to verify the different names of the narrator of the hadith, then examines its reliability.

Key Words: Hanash, Hanash ibn al-Mu`tamar, Rijal, Hanash ibn Ali, Hanash ibn Abdullah Sanani

Analysis and a New Definition of Taqrir Based on Its Related Traditions

Ali Akbar Kalantari

According to the general understanding taqrir (tacit approval) is that "something is done in the presence of the Infallible Imam and he does not reject it so that his silence implies that he has confirmed it". This definition is comprehensive and includes all instances of taqrir. It is better to define it in the following way: "Any confirmation, approval or endorsement of an action and speech by the Infallible Imam in any way." This definition is different from the first one that matches only one type of taqrir. It encompasses all types of taqrir. Providing these types and extract of samples from hadith texts help us explain the role and importance of taqrir.

Key Words: Taqrir, Types of Taqrir, Tradition, Infallible Imam, Hadith.
