Conference on Western Quranic Studies Planned in Tehran

A conference is scheduled to be held in Tehran later this month featuring the Quranic studies in the West.

Titled “A New Approach in Western Quranic Studies: Corpus Coranicum”, the conference is slated for Thursday, October 29.

Dr Sayyed Ali Aghayi, an Iranian scholar involved in the Corpus Coranicum project will address the event.

Participants will discuss, among other things, old manuscripts copies of the Quran, Quran readings, and literary interpretation of the Quran.

Corpus Coranicum is a research project of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

According to the website of the project, it aims to “document the Quran in its handwritten form and oral tradition, and include an extensive commentary interpreting the text in the context of its historical development.”

Stared in 2007, the initial three-year database project is led by Semitic and Arabic studies Prof. Angelika Neuwirth at the Free University of Berlin.
