Imam al-Baqir (AS) Words (Pt. 2)

Truly our tradition enlivens the hearts.

التوحيد عن الإمامِ الباقرِ والإمامِ الصّادقِ عليهما السلام : إنّ اللَّهَ عزّ وجلّ أرحَمُ بخَلقِهِ مِن أنْ يُجْبِرَ خَلقَهُ على‏ الذُّنوبِ ثُمّ يُعذِّبَهُم علَيها ، واللَّهُ أعزُّ مِن أنْ يُريدَ أمراً فلا يكونَ . قالَ : فسُئلا عليهما السلام : هلْ بينَ الجَبرِ والقدَرِ مَنزلةٌ ثالثةٌ ؟ قالا : نَعَمْ ، أوسَعُ مِمّا بينَ السّماءِ والأرضِ . التوحيد : 360 / 3 .

 Imam al-Baqir and Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Allah, the Exalted, is too merciful to coerce His servants to sin and then punish them for it. He is also too mighty to want something and it not be accomplished.' Then they were asked whether there is a stance between free will and predestination, to which they replied, 'Yes, [a stance] wider than the space between the earth and the sky.' al-Tawhid, p. 360, no. 3

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أشَدُّ الجَزعِ الصُّراخُ بالوَيْلِ والعَويلِ ، ولَطْمُ الوَجهِ والصَّدرِ ، وجَزُّ الشَّعْرِ . ومَن أقامَ النّواحَةَ فقد تَركَ الصّبرَ . مسكّن الفؤاد : 99 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The worst expression of grief is screaming and wailing with loud cries, beating one's face and chest, tearing out one's hair; and a man who takes up wailing is a man who has abandoned patience.' Musakkin al-Fu'ad, p. 99

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إذا دَخلَ أحدُكُم على‏ أخيهِ في رَحْلِهِ فلْيَقعُدْ حيثُ يأمرهُ صاحبُ الرَّحْلِ ، فإنّ صاحبَ الرّحْلِ أعْرَفُ بِعَورَةِ بَيتِهِ مِن الدّاخلِ عليهِ . قرب الإسناد : 69 / 222 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'When one of you enters his brother's place, he must sit wherever his host asks him to, because the owner of a house knows its private spots better than a visitor to it.' Qurb al-Isnad, p. 69, no. 222

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الخَيرُ والشَرُّ يُضاعَفُ يَومَ الجُمُعةِ . بحار الأنوار : 89 / 283 / 28 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Good and evil are given double the requital on Friday.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 89, p. 283, no. 28

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الجُنُبُ إذا أرادَ أنْ يَأكُلَ ويَشْرَبَ ، غَسَلَ يَدَهُ وتَمَضْمَضَ وغَسَلَ وَجهَهُ ، وأكَلَ وشَرِبَ . وسائل الشيعة : 1 / 495 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'A man in a state of ritual impurity, when he wishes to eat or drink, must wash his hands, rinse his mouth and wash his face before he eats or drinks.' Wasail al-Shia, p. 495, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الجَنّةُ مَحفوفةٌ بالمَكارِهِ والصَّبرِ ، فمَن صَبرَ على‏ المَكارِهِ في الدُّنيا دَخلَ الجَنّةَ . وجَهنّمُ مَحفوفةٌ باللَّذّاتِ والشَّهَواتِ ، فمَن أعطى‏ نَفْسَهُ لَذَّتَها وشَهْوَتَها دَخلَ النّارَ . الكافي : 2 / 89 / 7 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Paradise is surrounded by trials and patience. So whoever endures trials in the world will enter Paradise. Hell is surrounded by pleasures and desires. Thus, whoever allows himself its pleasures and desires [of the world] will enter the Fire.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 89, no. 7

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أوَّلُ أهْلِ الجَنّةِ دُخولاً إلى‏ الجَنّةِ أهْلُ المَعروفِ . الأمالي للصدوق : 326 / 383 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Among the people of Paradise, the first to enter therein will be the one who does good to others.' Amali al-Saduq, p. 210, no. 5

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لا فَضيلةَ كالجِهادِ ، ولاجِهادَ كمُجاهَدةِ الهوى‏ . تحف العقول : 286 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'There is no greater distinction than jihad, and no jihad like combatting one's self.' Tuhaf al-Uqul, no. 286

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لمّا قالَ لَهُ رجُلٌ : إنّي ضَعيفُ العَملِ قَليلُ الصّلاةِ قليلُ الصَّومِ ، ولكنْ أرْجو أنْ لا آكُلَ إلّا حَلالاً، ولا أنْكِحَ إلّا حَلالاً - : وأيُّ جِهادٍ أفْضَلُ مِن عِفَّةِ بَطْنٍ وفَرْجٍ؟! المحاسن : 1 / 455 / 1052 .

 When someone addressed Imam al-Baqir (AS), saying, 'I am weak in my worship, praying and fasting but a little, though I strive to eat only that which is permissible, and be sexually intimate with only those whom it is permissible', the Imam replied, 'What jihad is there better than restraint of the stomach and the private parts?!' al-Mahasin, v. 1, p. 455, no. 1052

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ قَوماً يُحْرَقونَ في (ب)النّارِ حتّى‏ إذا صاروا حُمَماً (حَميماً) أدْرَكَتْهُمُ الشَّفاعةُ . الزهد للحسين بن سعيد : 96 / 260 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Some people will burn in the Fire, until they are burned to ashes [and become pure] - then they will be taken out through intercession.' al-Zuhd li al-Husayn b. Said, p. 96, no. 260

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : قالَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : ما آمَنَ بي مَن باتَ شَبْعانَ وجارُهُ جائعٌ . قالَ : وما مِن أهلِ قريةٍ يَبِيتُ و فيهِم جائعٌ ، يَنظُرُ اللَّهُ إليهِم يومَ القِيامَةِ . الكافي : 2 / 668 / 14 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) narrated, 'The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'He has no faith in me who sleeps the night satiated while his neighbour is hungry.' He has also said, 'No sooner do the people in a village sleep at night while there is a hungry man in their midst than Allah will not look at them on the Day of Resurrection.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 668, no. 14

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ المُداعِبَ في‏الجَماعةِ بلا رَفَثٍ ، المتوحِّدَ بالفِكْرَةِ ، المُتَحَلّيَ بالصّبرِ ، المُتَباهيَ بالصَّلاةِ . المحاسن : 1 / 456 / 1056 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Allah loves the one who is jolly among people without being obscene, is monotheistic in his thought, adorned by patience, and priding himself with the prayer.' al-Mahasin, v. 1, p. 456, no. 1056

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولهِ تعالى‏ : (فَقَدِاسْتَمْسَكَ بِالعُرْوَةِ الوُثْقَى‏)  - : مَودَّتُنا أهلَ البَيتِ . المناقب لابن شهر آشوب : 4 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, regarding the verse of Allah, most High:"He has held fast to the firmest handle”, said, 'It is love for us, the Prophet's Household (Ahl al-bayt).' al-Manaqib li Ibn Shahr Ashub, v. 4, no. 2

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : واللَّهِ ، ما مَعنا مِن اللَّهِ بَراءةٌ ، ولابَيْنَنا وبَينَ اللَّهِ قَرابَةٌ، ولا لَنا على‏ اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ ، ولانَتَقرَّبُ إلى‏ اللَّهِ إلّا بالطّاعَةِ ، فمَن كانَ مِنكُم مُطيعاً للَّهِ تَنْفَعُهُ ولايَتُنا ، ومَن كانَ مِنكُم عاصياً للَّهِ لَم تَنْفَعْهُ وَلايَتُنا . ويْحَكُم لا تَغْتَرّوا ! ويْحَكُم لاتَغْتَرّوا ! وسائل الشيعة : 11 / 185 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'By Allah, we have no acquittance from Allah, nor is there kinship between Allah and us, nor do we possess a [special] argument against Allah, nor do we attain proximity to Allah except through His obedience. So whosoever from among you is obedient to Allah, our friendship will benefit him, and whosoever from among you is disobedient to Allah, our friendship will be of no use to him. Woe unto you, do not be deceived! Woe unto you, do not be deceived!' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 11, p. 185, no. 4

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في رجُلٍ أمَرَ رجُلاً بقَتلِ‏رجُلٍ فقَتلَهُ - : يُقْتَلُ بهِ الّذي قَتَلَهُ ، ويُحْبَسُ الآمِرُ بقَتْلِهِ في السِّجْنِ حتّى‏ يَموتَ . الكافي : 7 / 285 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, about a man who had ordered another man to kill someone, which he had done - 'He who killed him must be killed, and he who ordered the killing must be imprisoned until he dies.' al-Kafi, v. 7, p. 285, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الحَجُّ تَسْكينُ القُلوبِ . الأمالي للطوسي : 296 / 582 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Pilgrimage calms the hearts.' Amali al-Tusi, p. 296, no. 582

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : تَمامُ الحَجِّ لِقاءُ الإمامِ . عيون أخبار الرِّضا عليه السلام : 2 / 262 / 29 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The pilgrimage is completed by meeting the Imam.' Uyun Akhbar al-Rida (AS), v. 2, p. 262, no. 29

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما يُعْبَأُ بِمَن يَؤُمُّ هذا البَيتَ‏إذا لَم يَكُن فيهِ ثَلاثُ خِصالٍ : وَرَعٌ يَحْجِزُهُ عن مَعاصي اللَّهِ تعالى ، وحِلْمٌ يَمْلِكُ بهِ غَضَبَهُ ، وحُسْنُ الصَّحابةِ لِمَن صَحِبَهُ . الخصال : 148 / 180 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The pilgrim to this House is of no worth unless he has three attributes: piety that restrains him from acts of disobedience to Allah, most High; clemency with which he controls his anger; and good companionship with whoever accompanies him.' al-Khisal, p. 148, no. 180

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - وقد سُئلَ عن حُجّةِ اللَّهِ‏على‏ العِبادِ - : أنْ يَقولوا ما يَعْلَمونَ ، ويَقِفوا عِند ما لا يَعْلَمونَ . التوحيد : 459 / 27 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), when he was asked about the argument of Allah with people, replied, 'It is [for them] to say what they know and to stop at what they do not know.' al-Tawhid, p. 459, no. 27

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ حَديثَنا يُحْيي القُلوبَ . بحار الأنوار : 2 / 144 / 5 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Truly our tradition enlivens the hearts.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 2, p. 144, no. 5

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما وَردَ علَيكُم مِن حَديثِ آلِ محمّدٍ صلواتُ اللَّهِ علَيهِم فلانَتْ لَهُ قُلوبُكُم وعَرَفْتُموهُ فاقْبَلوهُ ، وما اشْمَأزَّتْ مِنهُ قُلوبُكُم وأنْكَرْتُموهُ فَرُدّوهُ إلى‏ اللَّهِ وإلى‏ الرّسولِ وإلى‏ العالِمِ مِن آلِ محمّدٍ عليهم السلام . بصائر الدرجات : 21 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Whenever a tradition from the household of Muhammad - peace be upon them all - is transmitted to you, towards which your hearts lean and it seems familiar to you, accept it. And whatever your hearts resent and you reject, then refer it back to Allah and the Prophet and the scholar from the household of Muhammad (SAWA).' Basair al-Darajat, 21, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ اللَّهَ تباركَ وتعالى‏ ...جَعلَ لكُلِّ شي‏ءٍ حَدّاً ، و جَعلَ علَيهِ دَليلاً يَدُلُّ علَيهِ ، وجَعلَ على‏ مَن تَعدّى‏ ذلك الحَدَّ حَدّاً . الكافي : 1 / 59 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Truly Allah, Blessed and most High ... has set a bound for everything, and has made for each one a sign indicating to it, and He has designated a punishment for whoever transgresses that bound.' al-Kafi, v. 1, p. 59, no. 2

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : في ثلاثةٍ شَهِدوا على‏ رجُلٍ بالزِّنى‏، فقالَ أميرُ المؤمنينَ عليه السلام : أينَ الرّابِعُ؟ فقالوا: الآنَ يَجي‏ءُ، فقالَ أميرُ المؤمنينَ عليه السلام: حُدُّوهُم ، فليسَ في الحُدودِ نَظِرَةُ ساعَةٍ . الكافي : 7 / 210 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) narrated, saying, 'Three people gave witness against a man for committing adultery. Then the Commander of the Faithful (AS) asked, 'Where is the fourth [witness]?' They said, 'He is arriving just now.' The Commander of the Faithful said, 'Punish them, for there is not even one hour of respite to be given in punishments.' al-Kafi, v. 7, p. 210, no. 4

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ أميرَ المؤمنينَ عليه السلام أمرَ قَنْبراً أنْ‏يَضرِبَ رجُلاً حَدّاً ، فغَلُظَ قَنبرٌ فَزادَهُ ثلاثةَ أسْواطِ ، فأقادَهُ عليٌّ عليه السلام مِن قَنبرٍ ثلاثةَ أسْواطٍ . الكافي : 7 / 260 / 1

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The Commander of the Faithful (AS) had ordered Qanbar to execute a man's punishment. Qanbar was rough and beat him three more lashes. So Ali (AS) forfeited on his behalf by beating Qanbar three lashes.' al-Kafi, v. 7, p. 260, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ علِيّاً عليه السلام كانَ يقولُ : لَأنْ يَخْطَفَني الطَّيرُ أحَبُّ إلَيَّ مِن أنْ أقولَ على‏ رسولِ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله ما لَم يَقُلْ ، سَمِعْتُ رسولَ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله يقولُ يَومَ الخَندَقِ : الحَربُ خُدْعَةٌ ، ويقولُ : تَكَلَّموا بما أرَدْتُم . وسائل الشيعة : 11 / 102 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Ali (AS) used to say: 'I would rather be snatched away by a bird of prey than to attribute a word to the Messenger of Allah (SAWA) that he had not said. I have heard the Messenger of Allah say on the day of the Battle of the Trenches (khandaq) that war is trickery, and he used to say: 'Say whatever you wish to say.' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 11, p. 102, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ أو الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليهما السلام : إنّ رسولَ اللَّه صلى اللَّه عليه وآله خَرَج بالنِّساءِ في الحَرْبِ حتّى‏ يُداوِينَ الجَرْحى‏ . الكافي : 5 / 45 / 8 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) or Imam al-Sadiq (AS) narrated, 'The Prophet (SAWA) took the women to war in order for them to treat the wounded, but he did not distribute the spoils of war among them but gave them some free gifts instead.' al-Kafi, v. 5, p. 45, no. 8

الإمام الباقر عليه السلام : إذا دَخَلَ عَلَيكَ رَجُلٌ يُريدُ أهلَكَ وما تَملِكُ فَابدُرهُ بِالضَّربَةِ إنِ استَطَعتَ ، فَإِنَّ اللِّصَّ مُحارِبٌ للَّهِ‏ِ ولِرَسولِهِ فَاقتُلهُ فَما تَبِعَكَ فِيهِ مِن شَي‏ءٍ فَهُوَ عَلَيَ‏  . قرب الأسناد : ص 158 ح 577 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'If a man enters your house and intends to assault your family and your wealth, then hit him first if you can, as a thief is a fighter against Allah and His Messenger (SAWA), then kill him, and if something was to happen to you after this, it will be my responsibility.' Qurb al-Isnad, p. 158, no. 577

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مَثَلُ الحَريصِ على‏ الدُّنيا مَثَلُ دُودَةِ القَزِّ : كُلَّما ازْدادَتْ مِن القَزِّ على‏ نَفْسِها لَفّاً كانَ أبْعَدَ لَها مِن الخُروجِ ، حتّى‏ تَموتَ غَمّاً . الكافي : 2 / 316 / 7 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The similitude of the one who covets this world is as the caterpillar: the more silk it spins around itself, the harder it makes its exit for itself, until it dies of grief.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 316, no. 7

الإمامُ الباقرٌ عليه السلام: إنَّ الرّجُلَ إذا أصابَ مالاً مِن حَرامٍ لَم يُقْبَلْ مِنهُ حَجُّ ولا عُمْرَةٌ ولا صِلَةُ رَحِمٍ حتّى‏ أنّه يَفْسُدُ فيهِ الفَرْجُ . الأمالي للطوسي : 680 / 1447 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'When a man accumulates wealth from prohibited sources, neither his obligatory pilgrimage (hajj) nor his voluntary pilgrimage (umra) nor his maintaining kinship will be accepted from him, and it even spoils marriage.' Amali al-Tusi, p. 680, no. 1447

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام: قَرَأتُ في كِتابِ عليٍّ عليه السلام: إنَّ المؤمنَ يُمْسي حَزيناً ويُصبِحُ حَزيناً ، ولا يَصْلُحُ لَهُ إلّا ذلكَ . التمحيص : 44 / 55 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'I have read in Ali's book that the believer spends nights and days in sorrow and only this can benefit him.' al-Tamhis, p. 44, no. 55

الإمامُ الباقرُ أو الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليهما السلام : ثلاثٌ لا يُسألُ عَنها العَبدُ : خِرْقَةٌ يُواري بهاعَوْرَتَهُ ، أو كِسْرَةٌ يَسُدُّ بها جَوْعَتَهُ، أو بَيتٌ يَكُنُّهُ مِن الحَرِّ والبَرْدِ . مجمع البيان : 10 / 812 .

 Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'There are three things which the servant will not be asked about: the cloth he used to cover his private parts, the piece of bread he used to sate his hunger with, and the house that used to protect him from the heat and the cold [the dire necessities of life].' Majma al-Bayan, v. 10, p. 812,

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : قالَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : كُلُّ مُحاسَبٍ مُعذَّبٌ ، فقالَ لَهُ قائلٌ : يا رسولَ اللَّهِ ، فأينَ قولُ اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ: (فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِساباً يَسيراً) ؟ قالَ : ذلكَ العَرْضُ ، يَعني التَّصَفُّحَ . معاني الأخبار : 262 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) narrated, 'The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Every person who stands to give account will suffer chastisement.' Then someone asked him, 'O Messenger of Allah! What about Allah's verse: "he shall soon receive an easy reckoning"?' He replied, 'That is the exposition, meaning the display of the pages [of one's book of deeds].' Maani al-Akhbar, p. 262, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ الحَسَد لَيَأكُلُ الإيمانَ كما تَأكُلُ النّارُ الحَطَبَ . الكافي : 2 / 306 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Jealousy consumes faith like fire consumes dry wood.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 306, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لَمّا حَضَرَتْ أبي عليَّ ابنَ الحسينِ عليه السلام الوَفاةُ ضَمَّني إلى‏ صَدْرِهِ ثُمَّ قالَ : أيْ بُنيَّ ، اُوصيكَ بِما أوْصاني أبي حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الوَفاةُ - وبما ذَكَرَ أنّ أباهُ عليه السلام أوصاهُ بهِ - : أيْ بُنَيَّ ، اصبِرْ على‏ الحقِّ وإنْ كانَ مُرّاً . بحار الأنوار : 70 / 184 / 52 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'At the time of his death, my father, Ali b. al-Husayn (AS) hugged me close to his chest and said, 'O my son! I advise you as my father advised me at the time of his death, and he proceeded to mention that his father had advised him, saying: 'O my son! Endure the truth even if it be bitter.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 70, p. 184, no. 52

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مِن حقِّ المؤمنِ على‏ أخيهِ المؤمنِ أن يُشْبِعَ جَوْعَتَهُ ، ويُواريَ عَورَتَهُ ، ويُفرِّجَ عَنهُ كُرْبَتهُ ، ويَقْضيَ دَيْنَهُ ، فإذا ماتَ خَلَفَهُ في أهلِهِ ووُلدِهِ . الكافي : 2 / 169 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Among the rights of the believer upon his fellow believing brother is to satisfy his hunger, cover his body, solve his problems, pay his debt, and when he dies, to substitute him in his family and his children.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 169, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - وقد سألَهُ أبو بصيرٍعن قولِ اللَّهِ : (ومَن يُؤْتَ الحِكْمَةَ فَقَد اُوتيَ خَيراً كَثيراً) - : هِي طاعَةُ اللَّهِ ومَعرِفَةُ الإمامِ. بحار الأنوار : 1 / 215 / 22 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) when he was asked by Abu Basir regarding the words of Allah's verse, "and he who is given wisdom..." said, 'It [wisdom] is obedience to Allah and true knowledge of the Imam.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 1, p. 251, no. 22

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أيُّما مسلمٍ أتى‏ مسلماً - زائراً أو طالِبَ حاجَةٍ وهُو في مَنزِلِهِ - فاسْتَأذَنَ لَه ولَم يَخْرُجْ إلَيهِ ، لَم يَزَلْ في لَعْنَةِ اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ حتّى‏ يَلْتَقِيا . الكافي : 2 / 365 / 4 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Whichever Muslim comes to another Muslim's home to visit or to seek a need, and asks permission to enter but he does not come out [to meet him], the curse of Allah will continuously be upon that Muslim [host] until they both meet again.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 365, no. 4

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّما مَثَلُ الحاجَةِ إلى‏ مَن أصابَ مالَهُ حَديثاً كمَثَلِ الدِّرْهَمِ في فَمِ الأفْعى‏ : أنتَ إلَيهِ مُحْوِجٌ وأنتَ مِنها على‏ خَطرٍ . تحف العقول : 294 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Verily the example of one who is in need from someone who has recently attained wealth is that of a dirham [coin] in the mouth of a viper. You are in need of it but at the same time you are in danger of the viper.'Tuhaf al-Uqul, no. 294

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كانوا قَبلَ نُوحٍ اُمّةً واحِدَةً على‏ فِطْرَةِ اللَّهِ لا مُهْتَدينَ ولا ضُلّالاً ، فَبعَثَ اللَّهُ النَّبِيّينَ . مجمع البيان : 2 / 543 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Before Prophet Noah (AS), they [mankind] were a single community upon the fitra of Allah, neither guided nor in error, thereafter Allah sent the prophets.' Majma al-Bayan, v. 2, p. 543

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أوَّلُ شَي‏ءٍ خَلقَهُ مِن خَلْقِهِ الشّي‏ءُ الّذي جَميعُ الأشياءِ مِنهُ ، وهُو الماءُ . التوحيد : 67 / 20 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The first thing that He created from His creation was the substance that all things come from, and that is water.' al-Tawhid, p. 68, no. 20
