Nahj al-Balaqha Int’l Book Award Slated for February 27

A ceremony will be held in Tehran on February 27, 2019, to announced and honor the winners of the first Nahj al-Balaqha International Book Award.

Speaking at a press conference on the award, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Quran and Etrat Deputy of the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abdol Hadi Feqhizadeh highlighted the significant status of the Nahj-ul-Balaqa and said the award is aimed at promoting the sublime teachings of the book.

It also seeks to shed light on the aspects of the book and the imamate of Imam Ali (AS) that have been ignored and to spread the Imam’s (AS) discourse in the Muslim world.

He went on to say that the award will be held biennially.

Elsewhere at the press conference, Qassem Darzi, executive secretary of the award, said that so far, some 200 works from Iran and other countries have been submitted to the secretariat for consideration.

He expected that the number would reach 1,000 by December 21, which is the deadline for submitting works.

According to Darzi, an 11-strong board of scholars evaluate the submitted works in three different committees.

He also said that a two-day workshop in English titled “Man and Social Relations in Shia Tradition with an Emphasis on Nahj-ul-Balaqa” is planned to be held after the awarding ceremony.

The Nahj-ul-Balaqa is a collection of sermons, precepts, prayers, epistles and aphorisms of Imam Ali (AS) compiled by al-Sayyid al-Sharif al-Radi about one thousand years ago.
