301. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

301. Imam Ali (AS) said:

مَن عَمِلَ بِالعَدلِ حَصَّنَ اللّهُ مُلكَهُ .

 “Whoever acts according to justice, Allah will fortify his rulership.”

302. عنه عليه السلام :

302. Imam Ali (AS) said:

ثَباتُ المُلكِ فِي العَدلِ .

 “The stability of a government lies in justice.”

303. عنه عليه السلام :

303. Imam Ali (AS) said:

جَعَلَ اللّهُ ـ سُبحانَهُ ـ العَدلَ قِواما لِلأَنامِ ،

“Allah the Almighty made justice as a source of stability for the people,

وتَنزيها مِنَ المَظالِمِ وَالآثامِ ،

an immunity from oppressions and sins

وتَسنِيَةً لِلإِسلامِ .

and a means for the implementation of Islam.”

304. عنه عليه السلام :

304. Imam Ali (AS) said:

إذا أدَّتِ الرَّعِيَّةُ إلَى الوالي حَقَّهُ ،

“When the subjects fulfill the rights of the ruler and the ruler fulfils their rights,

وأدَّى الوالي إلَيها حَقَّها عَزَّ الحَقُّ بَينَهُم ،

then the right will attain the position of honor among them,

وقامَت مَناهِجُ الدّينِ ،

the ways of religion be established,

وَاعتَدَلَت مَعالِمُ العَدلِ ،

signs of justice fixed

وجَرَت عَلى أذلالِهَا السُّنَنُ ،

and the sunna practised.

فَصَلَحَ بِذلِكَ الزَّمانُ ،

In light of this, time [life] will improve,

وطُمِعَ في بَقاءِ الدَّولَةِ ،

the perpetuity of government will be expected

ويَئِسَت مَطامِعُ الأَعداءِ .

and the covets of the enemies will be frustrated.”

 305. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

305. Imam Ali (AS) said:

مَن حَسُنَت سِياسَتُهُ دامَت رِياسَتُهُ .

 “He whose policy is good, his chieftainship will last.”

306. عنه عليه السلام :

306. Imam Ali (AS) said:

بِحُسنِ السِّياسَةِ يَكونُ الأَدَبُ الصّالِحُ .

 “Good policy brings in virtuous propriety.”

307. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

307. Imam Ali (AS) said:

حُسنُ السّيرَةِ جَمالُ القُدرَةِ ،

“Good conduct is an expression for the beauty of power

وحِصنُ الإِمرَةِ .

and the fort of rulership.”

308. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام:

308. Imam Ali (AS) said:

 مِن أماراتِ الدَّولَةِ اليَقَظَةُ لِحِراسَةِ الاُمورِ .

 “One of the signs of [the perpetuity of] a government is vigilance in monitoring the affairs.”

309. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

309. Imam Ali (AS) said:

شَرُّ الاُمَراءِ مَن ظَلَمَ رَعِيَّتَهُ .

 “The worst ruler is he who oppresses his subjects.”

310. عنه عليه السلام :

310. Imam Ali (AS) said:

مَن ظَلَمَ رَعِيَّتَهُ نَصَرَ أضدادَهُ .

 “He who oppresses his subjects has thereby helped his opponents.”

311. عنه عليه السلامـ لِزِيادِ بنِ أبيهِ ـ:

311. Imam Ali (AS) said, to Ziyad ibn Abih:

اِستَعمِلِ العَدلَ ،

“Employ justice,

وَاحذَرِ العَسفَ وَالحَيفَ ؛

and beware of tyranny and injustice,

فَإِنَّ العَسفَ يَعودُ بِالجَلاءِ ،

for tyranny results in vagrancy

وَالحَيفَ يَدعو إلَى السَّيفِ .

and injustice brings in the sword [war].”

نهج البلاغة : الحكمة 476 .

312. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

312. Imam Ali (AS) said:

سوءُ التَّدبيرِ سَبَبُ التَّدميرِ .

 “Mismanagement is the cause of destruction.”

313. عنه عليه السلام :

313. Imam Ali (AS) said:

يُستَدَلُّ عَلَى الإِدبارِ بِأَربَعٍ :

“There are four factors of decline:

سوءِ التَّدبيرِ ،

mismanagement,

وقُبحِ التَّبذيرِ ،

evil wasting,

وقِلَّةِ الِاعتِبارِ ،

lack of taking lessons,

وكَثرَةِ الِاعتِذارِ .

and too much apology.”

314. الإمام عليّ عليه السلامـ فِي الحِكَمِ المَنسوبَةِ إلَيهِ ـ:

314. Imam Ali (AS) said, from the wise saying attributed to him:

الِاستِئثارُ يوجِبُ الحَسَدَ ،

“Monopolization causes envy;

وَالحَسَدُ يوجِبُ البِغضَةَ ،

envy causes hatred;

وَالبِغضَةُ توجِبُ الِاختِلافَ ،

hatred causes differences;

وَالِاختِلافُ يوجِبُ الفُرقَةَ ،

differences causes disunity;

وَالفُرقَةُ توجِبُ الضَّعفَ ،

disunity causes weakness;

وَالضَّعفُ يوجِبُ الذُّلَّ ،

weakness causes humiliation;

وَالذُّلُّ يوجِبُ زَوالَ الدَّولَةِ

humiliation causes the decline of a government

وذَهابَ النِّعمَةِ .

and the disappearance of blessings.”

315. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

315. Imam Ali (AS) said:

يُستَدَلُّ عَلى إدبارِ الدُّوَلِ بِأَربَعٍ :

“There are four factors for decline of goverments:

تَضييعِ الاُصولِ ،

negligence of principles,

وَالتَّمَسُّكِ بِالفُروعِ ،

adherence to branches,

وتَقديمِ الأَراذِلِ ،

giving preference to the wicked,

وتَأخيرِ الأَفاضِلِ .

and setting aside very excellent men.”

316. الإمام عليّ عليه السلامـ في وَصِيَّتِهِ لِابنِهِ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ الحَنَفِيَّةِ ـ:

316. Imam Ali (AS) said, in his recommendations to his son Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyah:

يا بُنَيَّ ! ... أحسِن إلى جَميعِ النّاسِ كَما تُحِبُّ أن يُحسَنَ إلَيكَ ، وَارضَ لَهُم ما تَرضاهُ لِنَفسِكَ ،

“My son! Do good to all people as you like good to be done to you and long for others what you would long for yourself.

وَاستَقبِح مِن نَفَسِكَ ما تَستَقبِحُهُ مِن غَيرِكَ ،

Consider as ignoble for yourself that which you consider as ignoble for others.

وحَسِّن مَعَ جَميعِ النّاسِ خُلُقَكَ ،

Be amiable to all people

حَتّى إذا غِبتَ عَنهُم حَنّوا إلَيكَ ،

so that when you are away they would be looking forward to your return

وإذا مِتَّ بَكَوا عَلَيكَ . وقالوا:

and when you die they would weep for you and say:

إنّا للِّهِ وإنّا إلَيهِ راجِعونَ ،

 “Indeed, we belong to God, and to Him do we indeed return.”

ولا تَكُن مِنَ الَّذين يُقالُ عِندَ مَوتِهِ :

Do not be like those about whom when they die, people would say:

الحَمدُ للِّهِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ .

 “All praise belongs to God, Lord of all the worlds..”

317. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

317. Imam Ali (AS) said:

اِجتَنِبوا . . . مِن تَضاغُنِ القُلوبِ ،

“Refrain from......malice in the heart,

وتَشاحُنِ الصُّدورِ ،

hatred in the chest,

وتَدابُرِ النُّفوسِ ،

turning away (from each other’s help)

وتَخاذُلِ الأَيدي .

and withholding the hand from one another’s assistance.”

318. عنه عليه السلام :

318. Imam Ali (AS) said:

رَأسُ الجَهلِ مُعاداةُ النّاسِ .

 “The peak of ignorance is enmity towards people.”

319. الإمام عليّ عليه السلام :

319. Imam Ali (AS) said:

أيُّهَا النّاسُ !

“O people! Indeed,

وإنَّ الوَفاءَ تَوأَمُ الصِّدقِ ،

loyalty is the twin of truthfulness.

ولا أعلَمُ جُنَّةً أوقى مِنهُ ،

I do not know a shield [against the assaults of sin] better than it.

وما يَغدِرُ مَن عَلِمَ كَيفَ المَرجِعُ ،

He who knows the reality of the return [the hereafter] will never betray.

ولَقَد أصبَحنا في زَمانٍ قَدِ اتَّخَذَ أكثَرُ أهلِهِ الغَدرَ كَيسا،

We live in a time where most of people regard betrayal as wisdom,

ونَسَبَهم أهلُ الجَهلِ فيهِ إلى حُسنِ الحيلَةِ .

and the folk of ignorance attribute it to good cunningness.”

320. الإمام الصادق عليه السلام :

320. Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said:

كانَ أميرُ المُؤمِنينَ عليه السلام يَقولُ :

“The Commander of the Faithful (AS) would say:

لا تَزالُ هذِهِ الاُمَّةُ بِخَيرٍ ما لَم يَلبَسوا لِباسَ العَجَمِ ،

“This ummah never ceases to be good as long as it does not wear the clothes of foreigners

ويَطعَموا أطعِمَةَ العَجَمِ ،

nor does it eat the food of foreigners;

فَإذا فَعَلوا ذلِكَ ضَرَبَهُم اللّهُ بِالذُّلِّ .

if they do so, God will inflict disgrace upon them.”
