884. The Prophet (SA) said

about Ali (AS) on the Day of Khaybar:

“I shall certainly give the standard tomorrow to a man who loves God and his Messenger

and is loved by God and his Messenger.”

“I was with my father Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib sitting by the Messenger of God (SA),

when Ali ibn Abi Talib entered and greeted,

so the Messenger of God (SA) returned his greeting‚

received him with a smile,

stood up for him,

embraced him,

kissed him between his eyes

and seated him on his right.

Al-Abbas then said: ‘O Messenger of God (SA), do you love him?’

The Prophet (SA) said: ‘O uncle of the Messenger of God!

By God, God loves him more than I do.

God has made the descedents of every prophet from his [own] loins,

but He has made my descendents from his loins.’ ”

He said: ‘O God! Bring to me the most beloved of Your creatures to You,

so that he may eat of this [roasted] bird with me.

Thereupon Ali came and ate with him.’ ”

“A [dish of] roasted bird with bread and [mustard] sauce was gifted to the Messenger of God (SA).

He said:

‘O God! Bring to me the most beloved of Your creatures,

so that he may eat of this food with me.’

‘A’isha said: ‘O God! Appoint it to be my father.’

Hafsa said: ‘O God! Appoint it to be my father.’

Anas added: I said: O God! Appoint it to be Sa‘d ibn Øbada.

Anas states: I heard a movement at the door

so I came out, and beheld that Ali was at the door,

so I said: ‘The Messenger of God (SA) is busy’,

so he left.

After a while I heard [another] movement at the door

and came out to find Ali at the door,

so I said: ‘The Messenger of God (SA) is busy’,

so he left.

After a while I heard still [another] movement at the door,

so Ali greeted

and the Messenger of God (SA) heard his voice and said:

 ‘Look who is this.’

I came out to find Ali, so I returned to the Messenger of God (SA) and informed him.

He said: ‘Let him come in.’

Ali entered and the Messenger of God (SA) said:

For God’s sake [hasten] to me,

for God’s sake [hasten] to me.”
