A part from the introduction of this book says, “Addiction is a destructive phenomenon that is affecting the Muslim society. The important question is that how can this be prevented. What do Islamic teachings say about preventing addiction? What are the Islamic psychological ways of preventing addiction?
In Islamic sources, there are few traditions that directly deal with the issue of addiction. Although there are few traditions about this issue but they are not sufficient to answer a complicated problem like addiction.
The approach taken in this book is that first the causes and the reasons of addiction are identified and then ways of preventing these causes are discussed from the Islamic perspective. Study of different theories about the roots of addictions showed that inclination to addiction is due to certain key factors like pleasure-seeking, dissatisfaction, lack of fortitude and tolerance, ingratitude, excessive desires, lack of self-control.
As it can be clearly seen that each of these above mentioned factors is related to a very important topic discussed in Islam. In this manner different ways of preventing these causes can be easily found from the Islamic sources. Islamic approach offers different methods to save oneself from each of these different factors and all these different methods are based on some fundamental and solid Islamic principles.”
