A number of old manuscripts, including a copy of the Holly Quran were discovered in a mosque in Damanhur, the capital of Egypt’s Beheira Governorate on Tuesday.
According to al-Misri al-Yawm daily, they were found at Sayedi Atiya Abu al-Rish Mosque, director of the province’s Awqaf Department said.
He added that the Quran manuscript is unique in terms of its designs and decorations as well as containing a brief introduction to the letters of the Quran.
The copies had been in the mosque for years but no one knew of their importance.
