1337 - عَدُوُّ العَقلِ‏

1337. THE INTELLECT’S ADVERSARY

4431.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : الهَوى‏ عَدُوُّ العَقلِ .¹

4431.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The caprice is the intellect’s adversary.’²

4432.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : كَم مِن عَقلٍ أسيرٍ تَحتَ هَوى‏ أميرٍ !³

4432.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Many a slavish mind is subservient to an overpowering caprice!’⁴

4433.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: فَرَضَ اللَّهُ... تَركَ شُربِ الخَمرِ تَحصيناً لِلعَقلِ .⁵

4433.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Allah has made obligatory…the abandonment of drinking alcohol in order to safeguard the intellect.’⁶

4434.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اِعلَموا أنَّ الأمَلَ يُسهي العَقلَ ، ويُنسي الذِّكرَ .⁷

4434.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘Know that entertaining high hopes distracts the intellect and causes one to forget their remembrance [of Allah].’⁸

4435.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : الهَوى‏ يَقظانٌ والعَقلُ نائمٌ .⁹

4435.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘The caprice is awake while the intellect is asleep.’¹⁰

1336. THE FRUIT OF THE INTELLECT

4427.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: ثَمَرَةُ العَقلِ الاستِقامَةُ .¹

4427.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The fruit of the intellect is steadfastness [in the path of Allah].’²

4428.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : ثَمَرَةُ العَقلِ لُزومُ الحَقِّ .³

4428.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The fruit of the intellect is adherence to the truth.’⁴

4429.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : ثَمَرَةُ العَقلِ مَقتُ الدّنيا ، وقَمعُ الهَوى‏ .⁵

4429.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The fruit of the intellect is contempt for this worldly life and repression of one’s whims.’⁶

4430.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : العَقلُ شَجَرَةٌ ، ثَمَرُها السَّخاءُ والحَياءُ .⁷

4430.Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The intellect is a tree the fruit of which is generosity and modesty.’⁸
