Sayyid Ali Delbari

Without doubt hadith is a precious treasury of cognitive sources of Islamic thought. Due to vulnerability of these hadiths, hadith scholars believed that utilization of this precious treasury requires some preliminary steps: studying the deviations and deficiencies to remove undesirable consequences of them in the field of hadith comprehension. The word tashif which means "changing a part of hadith into another word or sentence" is one of these deviations requiring an independent research for the analysis and removal of its consequences. The author of this paper deals with strategies for studying the phenomenon of tashif through the method of descriptive analysis. Since a little change in letters and words of a hadith, deviate us from the main purpose of the Infallible Imam, peace be upon him, it is of high importance to pay attention to the phenomenon of tashif (slip of pen, misspelling, misplacement of diacritical marks etc.). In this paper, the author deals with the concept of tashif, its types, causes and consequences, strategies for analysis of hadiths defected by tashif and necessity of its correction.
