Ayatollah Rafsanjani’s Rahnama Quran Interpretation, A Quranic Encyclopedia

A senior Iranian cleric described the Rahnama Quran Exegesis by late Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani as a Quranic encyclopedia.

Following the death on Sunday of Ayatollah Rafsanjani, a former president of Iran and chairman of the Expediency Council, Hojat-ol-Islam Javad Akbari lauded the political and scholarly aspects of the late official’s character.

He said the prominence of Ayatollah Rafsanjani as a political figure has caused his scholarly status to be somehow shaded.

Hojat-ol-Islam Akbari added that the Rahnama Exegesis of the Holy Quran by Ayatollah Rafsanjani manifests his knowledge and scholarly talents.

He noted that the Ayatollah authored the book while he was in prison under the rule of the former Pahlavi regime, which was toppled in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Hojat-ol-Islam Akbari stressed that the Quran exegesis can be regarded as a Quranic encyclopedia that can greatly benefit Quranic researchers.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani died at a hospital in northern Tehran on Sunday at the age of 82 due to a heart condition.

He was among the main aides to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

He played an influential role both during the anti-Shah struggles before the victory of the Islamic Revolution and afterwards through various stages of the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Rafsanjani was also a key figure during the eight years of Iraq’s imposed war on Iran (1980-88), serving as substitute to commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
