The Heart

The gnostic’s face is cheerful and smily, whereas his heart is apprehensive and sorrowful.

قُلوبُ العِبادِ الطاهِرَةُ مَواضِعُ نَظَرِ اللَّهِ سبحانَهُ ، فَمَن طَهَّرَ قَلبَهُ نَظَرَ إلَيهِ . ح: 6777

The hearts of servants that are pure are places that Allah looks at [with mercy]. So whoever purifies his heart, Allah will look at it. H: 6777

إذَا مُلِئَ البَطْنُ مِنَ المُبَاحِ عَمِيَ القَلْبُ عَنِ الصَّلَاحِ . ح: 4139

When the stomach is filled with [even] permissible food, the heart becomes blind to goodness. H: 4139

المؤمن مَن طَهّرَ قلبَهُ مِن‏الدَّنِيَّةِ . ح: 1956

The believer is he who has purified his heart of all that is base. H: 1956

الحِكمَةُ شَجَرةٌ تَنْبُتُ في القَلبِ ، وتُثْمِرُ على‏ اللِّسانِ . ح: 1992

Wisdom is a tree that grows in the heart and produces fruit on the tongue. H: 1992

العارِفُ وَجهُهُ مُستَبشِرٌ مُتَبَسِّمٌ ، وقَلبُهُ وَجِلٌ مَحزونٌ . ح: 1985

إيّاكَ ومُستَهجَنَ الكلامِ ؛ فإنّهُ يُوغِرُ القَلبَ . ح: 2675

Beware of offensive speech, for it harbours hatred in the heart. H: 2675
