1. Brotherhood with the Prophet

779. Al-Istiab relates:
آخى رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بَينَ المُهاجِرينَ بِمَكَّةَ ،
“The Messenger of God (SA) brought the Emigrants into fraternal assosiation in Mecca,
ثُمَّ آخى بَينَ المُهاجِرينَ وَالأَنصارِ بِالمَدينَةِ ،
and then he brought the Emigrants and the Helpers into fraternal assosiation in Madinah.
وقالَ في كُلِّ واحِدَةٍ مِنهُما لِعَلِيٍّ :
In each of them he said to Ali:
أنتَ أخي فِي الدُّنيا وَالآخِرَةِ ،
You are my brother in this world and the next.
وآخى بَينَهُ وبَينَ نَفسِهِ .
Thereupon he brought him into fraternal association with himself.”

780. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آلهـ لِعَلِيٍّ عليه السلام ـ:
780. The Prophet (SA) said, to Ali, (AS):
إنَّ اللّهَ أمَرَني أن اُؤاخِيَكَ ،
“God has commanded me to bring you into fraternal association,
فَأَنتَ أخي فِي الدُّنيا وَالآخِرَةِ .
so you are my brother in this world and in the hereafter.”

781. Sunan al-Tirmidhi, reporting from Ibn Umar, who said:
آخى رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بَينَ أصحابِهِ ،
“The Messenger of God (SA) brought his companions into fraternal association with one another.
فَجاءَ عَلِيٌّ تَدمَعُ عَيناهُ ،
Thereafter Ali came with his eyes tearing
فَقالَ : يا رَسولَ اللّهِ ،
and said: ‘O Messenger of God,
آخَيتَ بَينَ أصحابِكَ
you have brought your companions into fraternal association with one another,
ولَم تُؤاخِ بَيني وبَينَ أحَدٍ ؟
but you have not brought me into fraternal association with anyone‚
فَقالَ لَهُ رَسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله :
The Messenger of God (SA) said to him:
أنتَ أخي فِي الدُّنيا وَالآخِرَةِ .
‘You are my brother in this world and in the hereafter.’ ”

782. Sunan al-Tirmidhi, reporting from Ibn Abbas, who said:
إنَّ رَسولَ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله أمَرَ بِسَدِّ الأَبوابِ إلّا بابَ عَلِيٍّ .
“The Messenger of God (SA) commanded that all the doors of the houses [opening towards the mosque] be blocked except the door of Ali’s house.”

783. Al-Mujam al-Awsat, reporting from al-Ala’ ibn Irar, who said:
سُئِلَ ابنُ عُمَرَ عَن عَلِيٍّ وعُثمانَ .
“Ibn Umar was asked about Ali and Uthman.
فَقالَ : أمّا عَلِيٌّ فَلا تَسأَلوا عَنهُ ؛
He said: As for Ali, do not ask about him.
اُنظُروا إلى مَنزِلَتِهِ مِن رَسولِ اللّهِ ،
Look at his position in relation to the Messenger of God.
فَإِنَّهُ سَدَّ أبوابَنا فِي المَسجِدِ ، وأقَرَّ بابَهُ .
He blocked our doors to the Mosque and left his door untouched.”

784. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آله :
784. The Prophet (SA) said:
ألا لا يَحِلُّ هذَا المَسجِدُ لِجُنُبٍ ولا لِحائِضٍ
“It is not permissible for ritually impure one or a menstruating woman to enter this Mosque,
إلّا لِرَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله وعَلِيٍّ وفاطِمَةَ وَالحَسَنِ وَالحُسَينِ ،
except for the Messenger of God (SA), Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain.
ألا قَد بَيَّنتُ لَكُمُ الأَسماءَ ألّا تَضِلّوا .
Indeed, I have made clear to you the names so that you may not be misguided.”

3. Ill-treament after the Prophet
785. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آلهـ لِعَلِيٍّ عليه السلام ـ:
785. The Prophet (SA) said, to Ali (AS):
إنَّ الاُمَّةَ سَتَغدِرُ بِكَ .
“ Indeed, the community will betray you.”

786. Imam Ali (AS) said:
مِمّا عَهِدَ إلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه و آله أنَّ الاُمَّةَ سَتَغدِرُ بِكَ مِن بَعدي .
“Of that which the Prophet (SA) revealed to me was that the community would betray you after me.”

787. رسول اللّه صلى الله عليه و آله :
787. The Prophet (SA) said:
يا عَلِيُّ ، أنتَ وَصِيّي ، ووارِثي ،
“O’ Ali, you are my executor and my inheritor.
قد أعطاكَ اللّهُ عِلمي وفَهمي ،
Indeed, God has granted you my knowledge and comprehension.
فَإِذا مِتُّ ظَهَرَت لَكَ ضَغائِنُ في صُدورِ قَومٍ ، وغَصبٌ عَلى حِقدٍ .
When I die, malice within the hearts of people and illegal seizure out of hatred will be manifested to you.”
وفي نسخة وبحار الأنوار : «وغُصِبتَ عَلى حَقِّكَ» .
[According to a variant and Bihar al-Anwar there is ‘and illegal seizure of your right’ in lieu of ‘illegal seizure out of hatred’.]

788. The Prophet (SA) said:
يا عَلِيُّ ، أنتَ المَظلومُ بَعدي ،
“O’ Ali, you are the oppressed after me;
مَن ظَلَمَكَ فَقَد ظَلَمَني .
whosoever oppresses you has indeed oppressed me.”

فَوَاللّهِ ما زِلتُ مَدفوعا عَن حَقّي مُستَأثَرا
“By God, I have continually been deprived of my right
عَلَيَّ مُنذُ قَبَضَ اللّهُ نَبِيَّهُ صلى الله عليه و آله حَتّى يَومِ النّاسِ هذا .
and it has continually been appropriated from the day God made His Prophet die till today.”
