136. al-Fusul al-Muhimma –narrated by Suda daughter of -Hamdāniya who went to Mu`āwiya after the death of Ali (a.s.): “Mu`āwiya started to reproach her for her mocking remarks to him during the battle of Siffin. Then he asked her: “What do you need?”
Suda replied: “Indeed God Almighty will question you about our affairs and what has been entrusted to you. There is always someone coming to us from you who towers up your position, spreads your dominion, reaps us like the ears of wheat, beats us up like seeds of wild rue, debases us and makes us taste death. That was Busr ibn Artā'a who came to us, killed our men and took away our property. If it was not for our obedience [to you], we would have been dignified and honored, so if you dismiss him we will be grateful of you; otherwise we will complain about you to God.”
Mu`āwiya said: “Are you referring to me and threatening me? O Suda, I have decided to put you on an unruly camel and send you back to Busr to carry out his judgment about you.”
Suda put her head down keeping silent and then recited the following couplets:
May God’s blessing be upon the body who was embraced,
By a grave in which justice was buried.
He allied with the truth and would not substitute it with anything,
And he became equal to the truth and faith.
Mu`āwiya said: “O Suda, who is this person?”
Suda said: “By God, this is the Commander of the Faithful (a.s.). I once went to him to talk to him about a man whom he had appointed as the head of [levying] taxes and that person had done injustice to us. I found him standing and ready to start saying prayer. When he saw me, he stopped and came towards me with a bright face, affection and leniency, saying: “Do you have any need?”
I said: “Yes.” And I told him the story.
He wept and said: “O God! You are witnessing that I did not command them to do injustice to your creation and to abandon Your rights.” He then took a piece of leather out of his pocket and wrote on it as follows:
“In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. There has certainly come to you a manifest proof from your Lord. Observe fully the measurement and the balance, and do not cheat the people of their good, and do not cause corruption on the earth after its restoration. That is better for you, if you are faithful.”1 “When you read my letter, settle what you are in charge of until I send someone to take it over from you. Wassalām!”
He gave me this letter he had written, I took it to his governor and gave it to him, and he left us dismissed.”
Mu`āwiya said: “Write for her whatever she wishes. Return her to her town that she may not have any complaints.”2

136. الفصول المُهِمّة: نُقِلَ عَن سَودَةَ بِنتِ عُمارَةَ الهَمدانِيَّةِ أنَّها قَدِمَت عَلىٰ مُعاوِيَةَ بَعدَ مَوتِ عَليٍّ علیه السلام، فَجَعَلَ مُعاوِيَةُ يُؤَنِّبُها عَلىٰ تَعريضِها عَلَيهِ في أيّامِ قِتالِ صِفّين، ثُمَّ إنَّهُ قالَ لَها: ما حاجَتُكِ؟ فَقالَت: إنَّ اللهَ تَعالى مُسائِلُكَ عَن أمرِنا وما فَوَّضَ إلَيكَ مِن أمرِنا، ولا يَزال يَقدَمُ عَلَينا مِن قَبلِكَ مَن يَسمو بِمَقامِكَ ويَبطِشُ بِسُلطانِكَ فَيَحصُدُنا حَصدَ السُّنبُلِ، ويَدوسُنا دَوسَ الحَرمَلِ، يَسومُنَا الخَسفَ، ويُذيقُنَا الحَتفَ، هذا بُسرُ بنُ أرطاةَ قَد قَدِمَ عَلَينا، فَقَتَلَ رِجالَنا، وأخَذَ أموالَنا، ولَولاَ الطّاعَةُ لكَانَ فينا عِزٌّ ومَنَعَةٌ، فَإِن عَزَلتَهُ عَنّا شَكَرناكَ وإلّا فإِلَى اللهِ شَكَوناكَ.
فَقالَ مُعاوِيَةُ: إيّايَ تَعنينَ ولي تُهَدِّدينَ! لَقَد هَمَمتُ يا سَودَة أن أحمِلَكِ عَلى قَتَبٍ أشوَسَ، فَأَرُدَّكِ إلَيهِ، فَيُنفِذَ حُكمَهُ فيكِ. فَأَطرَقَت ثُمَّ أنشَأَت تَقولُ:

صَلَّى الإِلـٰهُ عَلى جِسمٍ تَضَمَّنَهُقَبرٌ فَأَصبَحَ فيهِ العَدلُ مَدفونا
قَد حالَفَ الحَقَّ لا يَبغي بِهِ بَدلاًفَصارَ بِالحَقِّ وَالإِيمانِ مَقرونا
فَقالَ مُعاوِيَةُ: مَن هذا يا سَودَةُ؟ فَقالَت: هٰذا وَاللهِ أميرُ المُؤمِنينَ عَليُّ بنُ أبي طالِبٍ علیه السلام، لَقَد جِئتُهُ في رَجُلٍ كانَ قَد وَلّاهُ صَدَقاتِنا فَجارَ عَلَينا فَصادَفتُهُ قائِماً يُريدُ الصَّلاةَ، فَلَمّا رَآنِي انفَتَلَ، ثُمَّ أقبَلَ عَلَيَّ بِوَجهٍ طَلِقٍ، ورَحمَةٍ ورِفقٍ، وقالَ: لَكِ حاجَةٌ؟ فَقُلتُ: نَعَم، وأخبَرتُهُ بِالأَمرِ فَبَكىٰ، ثُمَّ قالَ: اللّهُمَّ أنتَ شاهِدٌ أنّي لَم آمُرهُم بِظُلمِ خَلقِكَ ولا بِتَركِ حَقِّكَ. ثُمَّ أخرَجَ مِن جَيبِهِ قَطعَةَ جِلدٍ وكَتَبَ فيها:
(بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ * قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم بَيِّنَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَوْفُواْ الْكَيْلَ وَالْمِيزَانَ وَلاَ تَبْخَسُواْ النَّاسَ أَشْيَآءَهُمْ وَ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِى الاَْرْضِ بَعْدَ إِصْلَـٰحِهَا ذَ لِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ) 1 وإذا قَرَأتَ كِتابي هذا فَاحتَفِظ بِما في يَدِكَ مِن عَمَلِكَ حَتّىٰ نُقَدِّمَ عَلَيكَ مَن يَقبِضهُ. وَالسَّلامُ.
ثُمَّ دَفَعَ إلَيَّ الرُّقعَةَ، فَجِئتُ بِالرُّقعَةِ إلىٰ صاحِبِهِ فَانصَرَفَ عَنّا مَعزولاً.
فَقالَ: اُكتُبوا لَها بِما تُريدُ، وَاصرِفوها إلىٰ بَلَدِها غَيرَ شاكِيَةٍ.2
