166. al-Bayān wa al-Tabyin: When Ali ibn Abi Tālib (a.s.) was on the pulpit, Hārith ibn Hawt al-Laythi stood up and said: “Do you think that we consider that Talha and Zubair have gone astray?”
He replied: “O Hārith! You are confused. Certainly you are confused. The truth is not known through men. So come to know the truth and you will only then know its people.”¹

166. البيان والتبيين: نَهَضَ الحارِثُ بنُ حَوط اللَّيثِيُّ إلى عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِب، وهُوَ عَلَى المِنبَرِ، فَقالَ: أ تَظُنُّ أنّا نَظُنُّ أنَّ طَلحَةَ وَالزُّبَيرَ كانا عَلى ضَلال؟ قالَ: يا حارِ، إنَّهُ مَلبوسٌ عَلَيكَ؛ إنَّ الحَقَّ لا يُعرَفُ بِالرِّجالِ؛ فَاعرِفِ الحَقَّ تَعرِف أهلَهُ!.¹
