وَقَالَ (عليه السلام):
Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
لاَ مَالَ أَعْوَدُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ،
No wealth is more profitable than wisdom,
وَلاَ وَحْدَةَ أَوْحَشُ مِنَ الْعُجْب،
no loneliness is more estranging than vanity,
وَلاَ عَقْلَ كَالتَّدْبِيرِ،
no wisdom is as good as tact,
وَلاَ كَرَمَ كَالتَّقْوَى،
no honour is like fear from Allah,
وَلاَ قَرين كَحُسنِ الخُلْقِ،
no companion is like the goodness of moral character,
وَلاَ مِيرَاثَ كَالاْدَبِ،
no inheritance is like civility,
وَلاَ قَائِدَ كَالتَّوْفِيقِ،
no guide is like promptitude,
وَلاَ تِجَارَةَ كَالْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ،
no trade is like virtuous acts,
وَلاَ رِبْحَ كَالثَّوَابِ،
no profit is like Divine reward,
وَلاَ وَرَعَ كالْوُقُوفِ عِنْدَ الشُّبْهَةِ،
no self- control is like inaction in time of doubt,
وَلاَ زُهْدَ كَالزُّهْدِ فِي الْحَرَامِ،
no abstention is like that (which is) from prohibitions,
ولاَ عِلْمَ كَالتَّفَكُّرِ،
no knowledge is like thinking,
وَلاَ عِبَادَةَ كَأَدَاءِ الْفَرائِضِ،
no worship is like the discharge of obligation,
وَلاَ إِيمَانَ كَالْحَيَاءِ وَالصَّبْرِ،
no belief is like modesty and endurance,
وَلاَ حَسَبَ كَالتَّوَاضُعِ،
no attainment is like humility,
وَلاَ شَرَفَ كَالْعِلْمِ،
no honour is like knowledge,
وَلاَ عِزَّ كَالْحِلْمِ
no power is like forbearance,
وَلاَ مُظَاهَرَةَ أَوْثَقُ مِن مُشَاوَرَةٍ.
and no support is more reliable than consultation.
