Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 114

Selections from The Sayings and Preaching of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him) Including His Replies to Questions and Maxims Expressed for Various Purposes.
Translated by Sayyid Ali Reza

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:

At a time when virtue is in vogue in the world and among people,

if a person entertains an evil suspicion about another person from whom nothing evil has ever been seen,

then he has been unjust.

And at a time when vice is in vogue in the world and among people,

if a man entertains a good idea about another person

he has flung himself in peril.
