Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 136

Selections from The Sayings and Preaching of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him) Including His Replies to Questions and Maxims Expressed for Various Purposes.
Translated by Sayyid Ali Reza

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:

For the God-fearing prayers is a means of seeking nearness to Allah;

and for the weak the hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is as good as jihad (fighting in the way of Allah).

For every thing there is a levy;

and the levy of the body is fasting.

The jihad of a woman is to afford pleasant company to her husband.
