Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 171

وَقَالَ (عليه ‏السلام):

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:

كَمْ مِنْ أَكْلَةٍ

Many a single eating

مَنَعَتْ أَكَلاَتٍ.

prevents several eatings. 40

 

40. This is a proverb which is used when a man runs after one advantage so vehemently that he has to give up several other advantages, like the man who eats too much or against his appetite and has to go subsequently without several meals.
