Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 359

Selections from The Sayings and Preaching of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him) Including His Replies to Questions and Maxims Expressed for Various Purposes.
Translated by Sayyid Ali Reza

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:

O slaves of desires,

cut them short

because he who leans on the world

gets nothing out of it except the pain of hardships.

O people,

take charge of the training of your own souls

and turn them away from the addiction to their habits.
