Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 406

Selections from The Sayings and Preaching of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him) Including His Replies to Questions and Maxims Expressed for Various Purposes.
Translated by Sayyid Ali Reza

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:

How good it is for the rich to show humility before the poor

to seek reward from Allah,

but better than that is the haughtiness of the poor towards the rich

with trust in Allah.
