Nahj al-Balagha Hadith n. 415

Selections from The Sayings and Preaching of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him) Including His Replies to Questions and Maxims Expressed for Various Purposes.
Translated by Sayyid Ali Reza

Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said about the world:

It deceives, it harms and it passes away.

Allah, the Sublime, did not approve it as a reward for His lovers

nor as a punishment for His enemies.

In fact, the people of this world are like those riders

that as soon as they alighted the driver called out to them and they marched off.
