here is no dignity like great ambition.

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : تَعَرَّضْ لِرِقَّةِ القَلبِ بكَثرَةِ الذِّكرِ في‏الخَلَواتِ . تحف العقول : 285 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Embark upon softening the heart through constant remembrance [of Allah] in places of seclusion.' Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 285

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لمّا سُئلَ عنِ اللعبِ بالشَّطرَنجِ - : إنّ المُؤمِنَ لَمَشغولٌ عنِ اللَّعِبِ . الخصال : 26 / 92 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), when asked about playing chess said, 'A believer is too busy to play.' al-Khisal, p. 26, no. 92

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما دَخَلَ قَلبَ امرِئٍ شي‏ءٌ مِن الكِبرِ إلّا نَقَصَ مِن عَقلِهِ مِثلُ ما دَخَلَهُ مِن ذلكَ ، قَلَّ ذلكَ أو كَثُرَ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 186 / 16

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'If any amount of arrogance enters the heart of a person, it will only bring deficiency to the intellect with the same amount of what entered it, whether it be a little or a lot.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 186, no. 16

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : واللَّهِ ، إنَّ أحَبَّ أصحابِي إلَيَّ أورَعُهُم وأفقَهُهُم وأكتَمُهُم لِحَديثِنا . الكافي : 2 / 223 / 7 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'By Allah, the most beloved of my companions to me are those who are the most pious, the most knowledgeable, and the most discrete with our speech.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 223, no. 7

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ الكذبَ هُو خَرابُ الإيمانِ . بحار الأنوار : 72 / 247 / 8 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Lying is the wrecker of faith.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 72, p. 259, no. 23

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ جَعَلَ لِلشرِّ أقفالاً ، وجَعَلَ مَفاتيحَ تِلكَ الأقفالِ الشَّرابَ، والكذبُ شَرٌّ مِن الشَّرابِ . بحار الأنوار : 72 / 236 / 3 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Allah, Mighty and Exalted, made locks for evil, and made the keys to those locks drinking [alcohol], and lying is even worse than drinking.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 72, p. 236, no. 3

  الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الكَسَلُ يُضِرُّ بالدِّينِ والدُّنيا . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 180 / 64 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Laziness harms both one's religion [i.e. the Hereafter] and this world.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 180, no. 64

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كُلُّ شَي‏ءٍ يَجُرُّهُ الإقرارُ والتَّسليمُ فهُو الإيمانُ ، وكُلُّ شَي‏ءٍ يَجُرُّهُ الإنكارُ والجُحودُ فهُو الكُفرُ . الكافي : 2 / 387 / 15 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Every act that is drawn by attestation and submission is faith, and anything that is drawn by refusal and denial is disbelief.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 387, no. 15

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام: إنّي لَأكْرَهُ أن يكونَ مِقدارُ لِسانِ الرجُلِ فاضِلاً على‏ مِقدارِ عِلمِهِ ، كما أكرَهُ أن يكونَ مِقدارُ عِلمِهِ فاضِلاً على‏ مِقدارِ عَقلِهِ . شرح نهج البلاغة : 7 / 92 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'I hate for the size of a person's tongue to exceed his knowledge, just as I hate the extent of a person's knowledge to exceed the extent of his intellect.' Sharh Nahj al-Balagha li Ibn Abi al-Hadid, v. 7, p. 92

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لِرجُلٍ وقَد كَلَّمَهُ بكلامٍ كَثيرٍ - : أيُّها الرجُلُ ، تَحتَقِرُ الكلامَ وتَستَصغِرُهُ ؟ ! اِعلَمْ أنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ لم يَبعَثْ رُسُلَهُ حيثُ بَعَثَها ومَعها ذَهَبٌ ولا فِضَّةٌ ، ولكنْ بَعَثَها بالكلامِ ، وإنّما عَرَّفَ اللَّهُ جلَ‏وعزَّ نفسَهُ إلى خَلقِهِ بالكلامِ والدَّلالاتِ علَيهِ والأعلامِ . الكافي : 8 / 148 / 128 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), addressing a man who talked too much, said: 'O man, you underestimate and belittle speech! Know that when Allah the Glorious and Exalted sent His Prophets He did not send them with gold and silver but with speech. God, the Exalted, presented Himself to His creatures through speech, reaons and sings'. al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 148, no. 128

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولِ اللَّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ : (وقُولُوا للنّاسِ حُسْناً)  - : قولوا للناسِ أحسَنَ ما تُحِبُّونَ أن يُقالَ فيكُم .   الكافي : 2 / 165 / 10 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), with regard to Allah's verse: "And speak kindly to people" said, 'Say to people the best of what you like to be said to you.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 165, no. 10

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الكمالُ كُلُّ الكمالِ التَّفقُّهُ في الدِّينِ ، والصَّبرُ علَى النّائبَةِ ، وتَقديرُ المَعيشةِ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 172 / 3 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Perfection, all of perfection is education in religion, patience over misfortunes, and apportioning one's livelihood.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 172, no. 3

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ هذا اللِّسانَ مِفتاحُ كلِّ خَيرٍ وشَرٍّ ، فيَنبَغي للمؤمنِ أن يَختِمَ على‏ لِسانِهِ كَما يَختِمُ على‏ ذَهَبِهِ وفِضَّتِهِ . تحف العقول : 298 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'This tongue is the key to all good and evil, so a believer must seal his tongue like he seals his gold and silver.' Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 298

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام لجابرِ بنِ يزيدَ الجُعفيِّ - : واعلَمْ بأنّكَ لا تكونُ لنا وَلِيّاً حتّى‏ لَوِ اجتَمعَ علَيكَ أهلُ مِصرِكَ وقالوا : إنّكَ رجُلُ سَوءٍ لَم يَحزُنْكَ ذلكَ ، ولَو قالوا : إنّكَ رجُلٌ صالِحٌ لَم يَسُرَّكَ ذلكَ ، ولكنِ اعرِضْ نَفسَكَ على‏ كِتابِ اللَّهِ ؛ فإن كنتَ سالِكاً سَبيلَهُ ، زاهِداً في تَزهِيدِهِ ، راغِباً في تَرغيبِهِ، خائفاً مِن تَخويفِهِ ، فاثبُتْ وأبشِرْ ، فإنّهُ لا يَضُرُّكَ ما قيلَ فيكَ ، وإن كنتَ مُبائناً للقُرآنِ فماذا الّذي يَغُرُّكَ مِن نَفسِكَ ؟ ! تحف العقول : 284 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said to Jabir b. Yazid al-Jufi, 'Know that you will not be a friend of ours unless if all of your countrymen were to gather and claim that you are a bad person, it would not worry you, and if they were all to say that you are a good person, it would not make you any happier. Expose yourself to the Book of Allah, and if you follow its path, abstaining from that which it dictates to be abstained from, wanting what it wants, and fearing that which it frightens about, then be steadfast and rejoice, for what is said about you will not harm you. But if you are contrary to the Quran then what do you have to be proud about?' Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 46

الإمامُ الباقرُ أو الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليهما السلام : سَهَرُ لَيلَةٍ مِن مَرَضٍ أو وَجَعٍ أفضَلُ وأعظَمُ أجراً مِن عِبادَةِ سَنَةٍ . الكافي : 3 / 114 / 6 .

 Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Staying awake from sickness or pain for one night carries a greater reward than the worship of one year.' al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 114, no. 6

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : الجَسَدُ إذا لم يَمرَضْ أشِرَ ، ولا خَيرَ في جَسَدٍ يَأشَرُ . مشكاة الأنوار : 487 / 1626 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'If a body does not become sick it continues to make merry, and there is no good in a body that [only] makes merry.' Mishkat al-Anwar, p. 280

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ يُحِبُّ المُداعِبَ في الجَماعةِ بلا رَفَثٍ . الكافي : 2 / 663 / 4

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Indeed Allah loves those who are playful among people without obscenity.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 663, no. 4

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولهِ تعالى‏ : (لَهُ مَعقِّباتٌ مِنْ بَينِ يَدَيهِ ومِنْ خَلْفِهِ يَحْفَظونَهُ مِنْ أمْرِ اللَّهِ)  - : بأمرِ اللَّهِ مِن أن يَقعَ في رَكِيٍّ ، أو يَقَعَ علَيهِ حائطٌ، أو يُصيبَهُ شي‏ءٌ؛ حتّى‏ إذا جاءَ القَدَرُ خَلّوا بينَهُ وبينَهُ يَدفَعونَهُ إلَى المَقاديرِ ، وهُما مَلَكانِ يَحفَظانِهِ باللَّيلِ ، ومَلَكانِ يَحفَظانِهِ بالنَّهارِ يَتَعاقَبانِ . بحار الأنوار : 59 / 179 / 16 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), with regard to Allah's verse in the Qur'an: "He has guardian angels, to his front and his rear, who guard him by Allah's command”, said, 'By the command of Allah he is protected from falling into a well or from a wall falling onto him, or from being struck with something, until the decree of Allah comes. They [i.e. the angels] leave him alone it and pass him onto his decrees. They are two angels that protect him in the night, and two angels following them that protect him in the day.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 59, p. 179, no. 16

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : قالَ جَبرئيلُ عليه السلام : يا رسولَ اللَّهِ ، إنّا لا نَدخُلُ بَيتاً فيهِ صُورَةُ إنسانٍ ، ولا بَيتاً يُبالُ فيهِ ، ولا بَيتاً فيهِ كلبٌ . الكافي : 3 / 393 / 26 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Gabriel (AS) said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we do not enter a house that has in it a picture of a human, nor a place that one urinates in, nor a house that has a dog.' al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 393, no. 26

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولهِ تعالى‏ : (وما آمَنَ مَعَهُ إلّا قَليلٌ)  - : كانوا ثمانِيَةً . بحار الأنوار : 11 / 336 / 64 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), with regard to Allah's verse in the Qur'an: "And none believed with him except a few”, said, 'They were eight.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 11, p. 336, no. 64

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ نُوحاً عليه السلام لَمّا انقَضَت نُبُوّتُهُ واستَكمَلَت أيّامُهُ أوحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ إلَيهِ أن : يا نُوحُ قد قَضَيتَ نُبُوّتَكَ واستَكمَلتَ أيّامَكَ، فاجعَلِ العِلمَ الّذي عِندَكَ والإيمانَ والاسمَ الأكبَرَ ومِيراثَ العِلمِ وآثارَ عِلمِ النُّبُوّةِ في العَقِبِ مِن ذُرّيَّتِكَ ... وبَشَّرَ نُوحٌ ساماً بِهُودٍ عليه السلام ، وكانَ فيما بينَ نُوحٍ وهُودٍ مِن الأنبياءِ . وقالَ نُوحٌ : إنّ اللَّهَ باعِثٌ نَبيّاً يُقالُ لَهُ : هُودٌ ، وإنّهُ يَدعو قَومَهُ إلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ فيُكَذِّبونَهُ واللَّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ مُهلِكُهُم بالرِّيحِ ، فمَن أدرَكَهُ مِنكُم فَليُؤمِنْ بهِ وليَتَّبِعْهُ فإنّ اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ يُنَجِّيهِ مِن عَذابِ الرِّيحِ . الكافي : 8 / 115 / 92 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'When Noah's prophethood finished and his time came to an end, Allah Almighty revealed to him: 'O Noah, you have fulfilled your prophethood and your days have come to an end, so put the knowledge you have, the faith, the Great Name, the heritage of knowledge and the legacy of the knowledge of prophethood in the offspring of your progeny...'. Noah informed Sam of the coming of Hud (AS), and there were prophets between Noah and Hud. Noah said, 'Allah will send a prophet by the name of Hud. He will invite his people to Allah and they will refute him. Allah Almighty will destroy them with wind, and so those of you who live to see him must believe in him and follow him, for Allah will save you from the punishment of the wind.' al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 115, no. 92

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ إبراهيمَ خَليلاً لأ نّهُ لَم يَرُدَّ أحَداً ، ولَم يَسألْ أحَداً غيرَ اللَّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ . علل الشرائع : 34 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Allah Almighty took Abraham as a friend because he did not refuse anyone, and did not ask anyone other than Allah Almighty.' Ilal al-Shara'i, p. 34, no. 2

 الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : وأمّا القَريَةُ الّتي اُمطِرَت مَطرَ السَّوءِ فهِيَ سَدُومُ قَريَةُ قَومِ لُوطٍ ، أمطَرَ اللَّهُ علَيهِم حِجارَةً مِن سِجِّيلٍ، يقولُ: مِن طِينٍ . بحار الأنوار : 12 / 152 / 5 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'As for the village that was rained upon with rain of punishment, it was the village of Sodom, the village of the people of Lot. Allah rained rocks of baked earth upon them, meaning clay.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 12, p. 153, no. 5

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : وأمّا داوودُ فمَلَكَ ما بَينَ الشّاماتِ إلى‏ بلادِ إصطَخرَ ، وكذلكَ كانَ مُلكُ سُلَيمانَ . الخصال : 248 / 110 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'As for David, he owned all that was between al-Shamat, till the land of Istakhr, and the kingdom of Solomon was the same.' al-Khisal, p. 248, no. 110

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لَمّا سَألَهُ عالِمٌ نَصرانِيٌّ عن رجُلٍ دَنا مِنِ امرأتِهِ فحَملَت باثنَينِ ، حَمَلَتهُما جَميعاً في ساعَةٍ واحِدَةٍ ، ووَلَدَتهُما في ساعَةٍ واحِدَةٍ ، وماتا في ساعَةٍ واحِدَةٍ ، ودُفِنا في قَبرٍ واحِدٍ ، عاشَ أحَدُهُما خَمسينَ ومِائَةَ سَنَةٍ وعاشَ الآخَرُ خَمسِينَ سَنَةً ، مَن هُما ؟ - : عُزَيرٌ وعُزرَةُ ، كانا حَمَلَت اُمُّهُما بِهما على‏ ما وَصَفتَ ووَضَعَتهُما على‏ ما وَصَفتَ وعاشَ عُزَيرٌ وعُزرَةُ كذا وكذا سَنَةً ، ثُمّ أماتَ اللَّهُ تباركَ وتعالى‏ عُزَيراً مِائةَ سَنَةٍ ، ثُمّ بُعِثَ وعاشَ مَع عُزرَةَ هذهِ الخَمسينَ سَنَةً ، وماتا كِلاهُما في ساعَةٍ واحِدَةٍ . الكافي : 8 / 123 / 94 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), when a Christian scholar asked him about a man who copulated with his wife and she became pregnant with two, both in one hour, and she gave birth to both in one hour, and they both died in one hour, and they were both buried in one grave, but one lived for one hundred and fifty years and the other lived for fifty years - who were they? He replied, ' Uzair and Uzra. Their mother was pregnant with them as you have described, and she gave birth as you described, and Uzair and Uzra lived for so and so years. Allah then made Uzair die for one hundred years, then he was revived and lived with Uzra for fifty years. Then they both died together at one time.' al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 123, no. 94

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ولَقَد أتاهُ جَبرئيلُ عليه السلام بمَفاتيحِ خَزائنِ الأرضِ ثَلاثَ مَرّاتٍ يُخَيِّرُهُ مِن غَيرِ أن يَنقُصَهُ اللَّهُ تباركَ وتعالى‏ مِمّا أعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُ يَومَ القِيامَةِ شيئاً ، فيَختارُ التَّواضُعَ لِربِّهِ جلَ‏وعَزَّ . الكافي: 8 / 130 / 100 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Gabriel (AS) came to him three times with the keys of the treasuries of the earth, giving him the choice without Allah Almighty lessening anything of what He had prepared for him on the Day of Judgment. So, he chose humbleness to his Lord, the Exalted and Mighty.' al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 130, no. 100

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ رسولَ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله لَم يُورِّثْ دِيناراً ولا دِرهَماً ولا عَبداً ولا وَليدَةً ولا شاةً ولا بَعيراً ، ولقد قُبِضَ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله وإنّ دِرعَهُ مَرهونَةٌ عِند يَهوديٍّ مِن يَهودِ المَدينَةِ بعِشرينَ صاعاً مِن شَعيرٍ استَسلَفَها نَفَقَةً لأهلِهِ . قرب الإسناد: 91 / 304 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The Prophet (SAWA) did not leave in inheritance a dinar, or a dirham, or a slave, or a slavegirl, or a lamb, or a camel. When he (SAWA) passed away, his shield was pawned to one of the Jews of Madina for twenty measures of barley, as a provision of sustenance for his family.' Qurb al-Isnad, p. 91, no. 304

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لمحمّدِ بنِ مُسلمٍ - : يا محمّدُ، لَعلَّكَ تَرى‏ أ نّهُ [يَعني رَسولَ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله ]شَبِعَ مِن خُبزِ البُرِّ ثَلاثةَ أيّامٍ مُتَوالِيَةٍ مِن أن بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ إلى‏ أن قَبَضَهُ ؟! لا واللَّهِ ، ما شَبِعَ مِن خُبزِ البُرِّ ثَلاثةَ أيّامٍ مُتَوالِيَةٍ مُنذُ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ إلى‏ أن قَبَضَهُ . أما إنّي لا أقولُ : إنّهُ كانَ لا يَجِدُ ، لَقد كانَ يُجيزُ الرّجُلَ الواحِدَ بالمِائةِ مِن الإبلِ ، فلو أرادَ أن يأكُلَ لَأكَلَ . الكافي : 8 / 130 / 100 .

 Imam al-Baqir, speaking to Muhammad b. Muslim, said, 'O Muhammad, you might think that he [meaning the Prophet (SAWA)] filled himself by eating wheat bread for three continuous days from the time Allah sent him until when He took him up?' He answered himself, saying, 'No, by Allah, he never filled himself with wheat bread for three continuous days since the time Allah sent him until He took him [his soul]. I am not saying that he could not find any, for one man would offer him one hundred camels, so if he wanted to eat he could have done so.' al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 130, no. 100

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كانَ رَسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله عِندَ عائشةَ لَيلَتَها ، فقالَت : يا رَسولَ اللَّهِ، لِمَ تُتعِبُ نَفسَكَ وقد غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ ما تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنبِكَ وما تأخَّرَ ؟ فقالَ : يا عائشةُ ، ألا أكونُ عَبداً شَكوراً ؟! الكافي : 2 / 95 / 6 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The Prophet (SAWA) was with A'isha on her night, and she said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why do you exhaust yourself when Allah has forgiven you what is past of your sin and what is to come?' He said, 'O A'isha, can I not be a thankful servant?!' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 95, no. 6

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - في قولهِ تعالى‏ : (يُوفُونَ بالنَّذْرِ) - : مَرِضَ الحَسنُ والحُسينُ وهُما صَبيّانِ صَغيرانِ ، فعادَهُما رَسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله ومَعهُ رجُلانِ ، فقالَ أحَدُهُما : يا أبا الحَسَنِ، لو نَذَرتَ في ابنَيكَ نَذراً إن عافاهُما اللَّهُ ، فقالَ : أصومُ ثَلاثَةَ أيّامٍ شُكراً للَّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ ، وكذلكَ قالَت فاطمَةُ ، وكذلكَ قالَت جارِيَتُهُم فِضَّةُ ، فألبَسَهُما اللَّه عافِيَةً فأصبَحوا صِياماً . وسائل الشيعة : 16 / 190 / 5 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), with regard to Allah's verse in the Qur'an: "They fulfil their vows", said, 'al-Hasan and al-Husayn became sick when they were young children, so the Prophet (SAWA) visited them and there were two men with him. One of the two men said [to Imam Ali], 'O Abu al-Hasan, why don't you make a vow for your two children for Allah to cure them.' He said, 'I will fast for three days in thanks to Allah Almighty. Fatima also said the same, and so did their servant Fidda. Allah Almighty covered them with good health, and so they fasted the next day.' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 16, p. 190, p. 5

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : اِتَّبِعْ مَن يُبكيكَ وهُو لكَ ناصِحٌ ، ولا تَتَّبِعْ مَن يُضحِكُكُ وهُو لكَ غاشٌّ . المحاسن : 2 / 440 / 2526 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Follow he who makes you cry when he advises you, and do not follow he that makes you laugh while he deceives you.' al-Mahasin, v. 2, p. 440, no. 2526

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لا عَدلَ كالإنصافِ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 165 / 1 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'There is no justice like fairness.' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 165, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إنّ للَّهِ جَنَّةً لا يَدخُلُها إلّا ثَلاثَةٌ ، أحَدُهُم مَن حَكَم في نَفسِهِ بالحَقِّ . الكافي : 2 / 148 / 19 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Allah has a Heaven that no one enters other than three kinds of people: one of them is he who judges himself with truth.' al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 148, no. 19

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : كَنسُ البُيوتِ يَنفي الفَقرَ . وسائل الشيعة : 3 / 571 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Sweeping of the houses eradicates poverty.' Wasa'il al-Shia, v. 3, p. 571, no. 2

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لَمّا سُئلَ عن قولهِ تعالى‏ : (ولا تَيَمَّمُوا الخَبيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقونَ)  - : كانَ النّاسُ حينَ أسلَموا عِندَهُم مَكاسِبُ مِن الرِّبا ومِن أموالٍ خَبيثَةٍ ، فكانَ الرّجُلُ يَتعَمَّدُها مِن بَينِ مالِهِ فتَصَدّقَ بها ، فنهاهُمُ اللَّهُ عَن ذلكَ، وإنّ الصَّدَقَةَ لا تَصلُحُ إلّا مِن كَسبٍ طَيِّبٍ . تفسير العيّاشيّ : 1 / 149 / 492 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS), when he was asked about Allah's verse in the Qur'an: "and do not be of the mind to give the bad part of it”, said, 'When people became Muslims, they had earnings from usury and from unlawful dealings, and a man would mix it in with his money and donate from it. So, Allah prohibited them from doing so, and charity is only correct [when given] out of pure earnings.' Tafsir al-Ayyashi, v. 1, p. 149, no. 492

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : قالَ موسى‏ عليه السلام : أيُّ عِبادِكَ أبغَضُ إلَيكَ ؟ قالَ : جِيفَةٌ باللَّيل ، بَطّالٌ بالنَّهارِ . قصص الأنبياء : 163 / 185 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Moses (AS) asked [Allah], 'Who from among Your servants is most hated by You?' He Almighty said, '[One who is] a carcass at night and idle [jobless] during the day.' Qasas al-Anbiya', p. 163, no. 185

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : إذا عَلِمَ اللَّهُ تعالى‏ حُسنَ نِيَّةٍ مِن أحَدٍ ، اكتَنَفَهُ بالعِصمَةِ . أعلام الدين : 301 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'When Allah Almighty knows the good intention of someone He encompasses him with protection [from sins].' Alam al-Din, p. 301

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : نِيَّةُ المُؤمنِ أفضَلُ مِن عَمَلِهِ ؛ وذلكَ لأ نّهُ يَنوي مِن الخَيرِ ما لا يُدرِكُهُ ، ونِيَّةُ الكافِرِ شَرٌّ مِن عَمَلِهِ ؛ وذلكَ لأنَّ الكافِرَ يَنوي الشَّرَّ ويأمَلُ مِن الشَّرِّ ما لا يُدرِكُهُ . علل الشرائع : 524 / 2 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'The intention of a believer is better than his action, that is because he intends good that he cannot perform, and the intention of the disbeliever is worse than his action because he intends evil and he wishes in evil what he cannot perform.' Ilal al-Sharai, p. 524, no. 1

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مَن دَخَلَ في الإسلامِ طَوعاً فهُو مُهاجِرٌ . الكافي : 8 / 148 / 126 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'He who willingly enters Islam is a migrant.' al-Kafi, v. 8, p. 148, no. 126

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : ما مِن مُؤمنَينِ اهتَجَرا فَوقَ ثَلاثٍ إلّا وَبَرِئتُ مِنهُما في الثّالِثَةِ ، فقيلَ لَهُ : يابنَ رسولِ اللَّهِ ، هذا حالُ الظّالِمِ فما بالُ المَظلومِ ؟ فقالَ عليه السلام: ما بالُ المَظلومِ لا يَصيرُ إلَى الظّالِمِ فيَقولُ : أنا الظّالِمُ ، حتّى‏ يَصطَلِحا ؟! بحار الأنوار : 75 / 188 / 10 .

 Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Any two believers who forsake each other for more than three days, I disassociate myself from them on the third day.' He was asked, 'O son of the Prophet, this is in regard to the one wronging, but what about the wronged?' He (SAWA) said, 'Well why doesn't the wronged one himself go to the wronger and say, 'I am in the wrong, until they reconcile?!' Bihar al-Anwar, v. 75, p. 188, no. 10

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لاشَرَفَ كبُعدِ الهِمَّةِ . بحار الأنوار : 78 / 165 / 1 .
