وَقَالَ (عليه السلام):
Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
قَدْرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلَى قَدْرِ هِمَّتِهِ،
The worth of a man is according to his courage,
وَصِدْقُهُ عَلَى قَدْرِ مُرُوءَتِهِ،
his truthfulness is according to his balance of temper,
وَشَجَاعَتُهُ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَنَفَتِهِ،
his valour is according to his self-respect
عِفَّتُهُ عَلَى قَدْرِ غَيْرَتِهِ
and his chasteness is according to his sense of shame.
