وَقَالَ (عليه السلام):
Amir al-mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:
أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ
O people,
لِيَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ وَجِلِينَ
let Allah see you fearing at the time of happiness
كَمَا يَرَاكُمْ مِنَ النِّقْمَةِ فَرِقِينَ
just as you fear Him at the time of distress.
إِنَّهُ مَنْ وُسِّعَ عَلَيْهِ فِى ذَاتِ يَدِهِ
Certainly, he who is given ease (of life)
فَلَمْ يَرَ ذَلِكَ اسْتِدْرَاجاً
and does not consider it as a means of slow approach towards tribulation (wrongly),
فَقَدْ أَمِنَ مَخُوفاً
considers himself safe against what is to be feared
وَ مَنْ ضُيِّقَ عَلَيْهِ فِى ذَاتِ يَدِهِ
while he who is afflicted with straitened circumstances
فَلَمْ يَرَ ذَلِكَ اخْتِبَاراً
but does not perceive them to be a trial
فَقَدْ ضَيَّعَ مَأْمُولًا.
loses the coveted reward.
