I am its roots;
وأنتَ فَرعُها ،
you are its stem;
وَالحُسَينُ وَالحَسَنُ أغصانُها ،
Husain and Hasan are its branches,
ومُحِبّونا وَرَقُها ،
and our lovers are its leaves;
فَمَن تَعَلَّقَ بِشَيءٍ مِنها
whoever clings on to any part of it,
أدخَلَهُ اللّهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ الجَنَّةَ .

his flesh is my flesh

هُوَ مِنّي بِمَنزِلَةِ هارونَ مِن موسى ،
He is in relation to me as Aaron was in relation to Moses

فَزَوَّجَني ،
so he married me.
فَقُلتُ : يا رَسولَ اللّهِ ،
I said: “O Messenger of God,
أنَا أحَبُّ إلَيكَ أم هِيَ ؟
am I more beloved to you or is she?
قالَ : هِيَ أحَبُّ إلَيَّ مِنكَ ،
He said: She is more beloved to me than you,
وأنتَ أعَزُّ عَلَيَّ مِنها .
however, you are dearer to me than her.”

فَبَشَّرَني أنَّ حَسَنا وحُسَينا سَيِّدا شَبابِ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ ،
with glad tidings that Hasan and Husain are the masters of the youth of Paradise

يا عَلِيُّ ،
“O Ali‚ God‚
ما بَعَثَ اللّهُ عَزَّ وجَلَّ نَبِيّا
the Great and Almighty has not sent forth a prophet
إلّا وجَعَلَ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ من صُلبِهِ ،
except that he appointed his offspring to be from his loins.

He has appointed my offspring from your loins.

606. Imam Ali (AS) said:
ولَقَد سَمِعتُ رَنَّةَ الشَّيطانِ
“I heard the groan of Satan
حينَ نَزَلَ الوَحيُ عَلَيهِ صلى الله عليه و آله
when the Revelation was revealed upon him (s.a.w),
فَقُلتُ : يا رَسولَ اللّهِ ، ما هذِهِ الرَّنَّةُ ؟
so I said, ‘O Messenger of God, what is this groaning?’
فَقالَ : هذَا الشَّيطانُ قَد أيِسَ مِن عِبادَتِهِ .
He replied, ‘This is Satan who has lost all hope of being worshipped.
إنَّكَ تَسمَعُ ما أسمَعُ ، وتَرى ما أرى ،
O Ali, you see what I see and you hear what I hear;
إلّا أنَّكَ لَستَ بِنَبِيٍّ ،
however, you are not a prophet,
ولكِنَّكَ لَوَزيرٌ ،
but you are a minister
وإنَّكَ لَعَلى خَيرٍ .
and you are surely on [the path of] good.”

هُوَ أخي ، ووَصِيّي ،
“He is my brother, my executor,
وخَليفَتي عَلى اُمَّتي في حَياتي وبَعدَ مَوتي ،
my vicegerent over my Community in my life and after my death;
مَن أطاعَهُ أطاعَني ،
whoever obeys him has obeyed me,
ومَن وافَقَهُ وَافَقَني ،
whoever agrees with him has agreed with me,
ومَن خالَفَهُ خالَفَني .
and whoever opposes him has opposed me.”

مَن أرادَ أن يَنظُرَ إلى آدَمَ في عِلمِهِ ،
“Whoever desires to see Adam in his knowledge,
وإلى نوحٍ في فَهمِهِ ،
Noah in his comprehension,
وإلى إبراهيمَ في حِلمِهِ ،
Abraham in his forbearance,
وإلى يَحيَى بنِ زَكَرِيّا في زُهدِهِ ،
John, son of Zachariah, in his asceticism
وإلى موسَى بنِ عِمرانَ فيبَطشِهِ ،
and Moses, son of Imran, in his bravery,
فَليَنظُر إلى عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ .
let him look at Ali ibn Abi Talib.”

سَمِعتُهُ مِن رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بِاُذُنَيَّ هاتَينِ يَقولُ ـ وإلّا فَصَمَّتا ـ :
“I heard the Messenger of God (SA) with my two ears – or else let them be deaf- say:
عَلِيٌّ بَعدي خَيرُ البَشَرِ ،
“Ali is the best of people after me;
مَن أبى فَقَد كَفَرَ .
whoever refuses has indeed disbelieved.”

615. Al-Mujam al-Kabir, reporting from Abu Rafi‘, who said:
إنَّ رَسولَ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله بَعَثَ عَلِيّا مَبعَثا ،
“The Messenger of God (SA) sent forth Ali on a mission;
فَلَمّا قَدِمَ قالَ لَهُ رَسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله :
when he returned, the Messenger of God (SA) said to him:
اللّهُ ورَسولُهُ وجِبريلُ عليهم السلام عَنكَ راضونَ .

سَتَكونُ مِن بَعدي فِتنَةٌ ،
“There will be dissension after me;
فَإِذا كانَ ذلِكَ فَالزَموا عَلِيَّ بنَ أبي طالِبٍ ؛
if this is the case, hold on to Ali ibn Abi Talib,
فَإِنَّهُ أوَّلُ مَن يَراني ،
for he is the first to see me
وأوَّلُ مَن يُصافِحُني يَومَ القِيامَةِ .
and the first to shake hands with me on the Day of Judgment.”

he will be the bearer of my standard
ومَعي غَدا

عَلِيٌّ يَومَ القِيامَةِ عَلَى الحَوضِ ،
“Ali will be at the pond on the Day of Judgment.
لا يَدخُلُ الجَنَّةَ
Nobody will enter Paradise
إلّا مَن جاءَ بِجَوازٍ مِن عَلِيِّ بنِ أبي طالِبٍ .
except him who will bring an authorization from Ali ibn Abi Talib.”

يُنادِي المُنادي [يَومَ القِيامَةِ] :
“A caller will declare [on the Day of Judgement],
يا عَلِيُّ ، أدخِل مَن أحَبَّكَ الجَنَّةَ ومَن عاداكَ النّارَ ،
OAli! Admit him who loves you into Paradise and him who opposes you into the fire,
فَأَنتَ قَسيمُ الجَنَّةِ وأنتَ قَسيمُ النّارِ .
for you are the divider of Paradise and you are the divider of the Fire.”
