34. Sahih al-Bukhari, narrating from `Ubaydullah ibn Abi Rafi`, who said:
“I heard Ali (AS) say:
“The Messenger of Allah (SA) sent me, al-Zubayr, and al-Miqdad,
saying to us: “Go until you come to the garden of Khakh, [Rawzah Khakh: a place between the two holy cities of Mecca and Medina, near Hamra’ al-Asad from the side of Medina. Mu`jam al-Buldan, vol. 2, p. 335].
where there is a woman carrying a letter,
so take it from her.”
We left, racing our horses until we came to the garden,
where we found the woman;
we said to her: “Take out the letter.”
She said: “I have no letter.”
We said: “Either you take out the letter or we will disrobe you.”
She took it out of her hair locks,
and we took it back to the Messenger of Allah (SA).”

35. Tarikh al-Tabari, narrating from `Abdullah ibn Abi Najih, who said:
“When the Messenger of Allah (SA) organised his army in Dhi Tuwa,
he ordered al-Zubayr, who was the commander of the left flank, to enter from Kuda [Kuda: The lower mountain road in Mecca close to Bab al-`Umrah. Lisan al-`Arab, vol. 15, p. 218]
with some of his soldiers,
and he ordered Sa`d ibn `Ubadah to enter from Kada’ [Kada’: The upper mountain road in Mecca after the cemetery, which is also called al-Mu`alla. Lisan al-`Arab, vol. 15, p. 218] with another group of people.
Some of the people of knowledge have claimed that when Sa`d entered, he said:
“Today is the day of fierce battle.
Today women shall be taken captives.”
One of the Muhajirun heard this
and said: “O Messenger of Allah,
listen to what Sa`d ibn `Ubadah is saying.
We are worried that he might make an assault on Quraish.”
The Messenger of Allah (SA) said to Ali:
“Catch up with him and take the banner from him:
you will be the one to enter Mecca with it.”
